Default 356B brake upgrade

Would anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the front drum brakes on a B with the disc set-up from a C? How much work and which parts are involved . . . or is it kind of a bolt on?

Thanks for any help or info.

Yes it's possible...Vic Skirmants wrote an article about it on the 356 registry's magazine Volume 24 #6 (Mar-Apr 2001)...the article is probably at the "Porsche 356 technical and restoration guide II" which is a compilation of the registry's technical articles from 1994 to 2004...follow the link for the book...

The B drum brakes are plenty good for stopping, as good as the discs, when in good shape. However, C (& early 912, 911) disc brakes are more plentiful, if you have an expensive repair issue on the drums. Discs are a bit lighter, too. There is the matter of achieving the proper balance between the front & rear set when making this "upgrade". So, don't get the discs because they will stop better - they won't. Like Pedro says, do the research & talk w/ Vic or another 356 pro who has performed this mod.

Ked is absolutely right...the disc brakes will not stop faster...they have an advantage for the track because, as I heard from others, they don't fade easily...if you have a car for street use only, don't worry about the conversion...do the dual circuit convertion instead...more safety regardless of discs or drums...check the link...
