Default Follow-up on Headlight Unit Bulb

Do all of the 356's or at least all of the B's have the socket for this upright bulb in front of the sealed beam unit. But that they just don't come with any bulb in it. Or are some headlight assemblies without this socket at all?

Okay, how about this question. Does anyone have a headlight unit without this extra bulb socket in front of the sealed beam unit?

You'll probably get better results from 356talk... if you aren't subscribed to it, check my archive http://www.gruv.org/356talk

Thanks Steve, I really can't get any response on this site. Not sure why. Asking about the configuration of everybody's headlight unit is a question everyone could answer. So far, not one response.

Hi...get Dr. Brett Johnson's book "A Restorer's guide to authenticity" as you are interested in originality..there you'll find many clues to understand your car...keep in mind things were not "black or white" back in the 60s and Porsche...sometimes the changes in the assembly line are hard to follow and there are tons of people still trying to figure out the misteries...

As far as your question...go to page 52 and take a look...the early BT5s had the parking light built into the headlight...then by late late T5s and early T6 they removed the paring light bulb and covered with a silver painted cardboard or metal piece...by late T6 they started changing and the 356Cs had the newer style headlights with no parking light or metal covered hole along with diagonally opposed adjustment screws...when exactly the changes were made? Who knows?

Steve is right...if you want to get deep into the 356 world, you got to get a 356 registry membership and join the 356talklist...the old timers are there and they are the best 356 source of information in the world...while in the 356talklist you can also do your own research , among the "listers" regarding headlights...

Take care...

Never owned a B so can't help you............... and I can't run out into the garage and look at our C because we've sold it and now we only have a Pre A and an A. They are Different animals......

Like Pedro said, buy the book, actually, go out and buy all the books you can. Oh, and join the 356 Registry and try to go to some events. That's how we all learned about our specific cars.
