Default What's this light for?

There is a light bulb at the base of the headlight unit on this 356B. What's it for, and how is it actuated?

Those are "parking lights". Pull your light switch out to the first position and these bulbs will light, pull the switch all the way out and your headlights come on.

I have the front amber lights that come on when the switch is pulled out half-way. Should these lights in the headlight also come on?

Do you mean your amber turn signals or your fog/driving lights?

My amber unit has two bulbs in it - an 18 watt ( larger bulb ) and a 4 watt ( smaller bulb ). When I pull the light switch out half-way the 4 watt comes on. For the turn signal the larger one blinks. And then the headlight come on when pulled out all the way. I don't have fog lights ( or any extra lights besides what I have mentioned )

If I'm not mistaken...the "parking light bulb" was standard for the 356Bs... Non-US, non-sealed beam headlight cars...cars with the sealed headlight had no parking light bulb... not really sure though!

Take care...

So should both the small bulb in the headlight unit AND the small bulb in the amber unit come on with the light switch pulled half-way out ?

I'll chime in here with an old car I had- I had a european 1978 911 that I bought used in 1988. It had the stock european headlights (H-4's or H-5s? I don't remember) Anyway, it too had the small bulbs in there but they didn't come on with the parking lights- I couldn't get them on. It could have been something whereby they are disabled for certain markets and enabled for others? (I never tried to replace the bulbs to see if they were both blown). The fact that the grey market car I had had the euro lights, no cats, and a KPH speedo, I believe the car slipped into the US without any modification from Germany, thus it's doubtful that mine were "disabled" due to US laws or what have you, especially since the euro headlights were illegal in the US at the time.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that into the thread...

I was told that they were "city lights". I had them on my '60 Roadster. I hooked wiring up to the parking lights. They looked great when they were turned on, MY '67 912 had this socket covered up with a piece of metal.
