there is a special little thing with teeth to hold it & lock it in place while you torque it down or take it off. im assuming youre talking about the gland nut? me thinks 36mm

tell yah what.. get your original tool kit that came with the car out, see if it is bigger than the generator pully wrench (its 36).

when you put it back on, make sure to use a new gland nut!!! gland nuts are not to be reused!!

i highly recomend the scat gland nut. they can be bought from duane spencer, or vic skirmants or classic and speed parts. the GOOD shops will cary them. the scat gland nuts are the strongest you can get for these engines and get torqued down to about 450 ft lbs. they are 48 bucks but thats not alot of money considering the piece of mind you get with them.

if you get a standard gland nut, it gets about 350 ft/lbs.

how does one do this? with leverage of course

well thats how they do it, they use a cheater bar! now granted most shops use a smaller bar. if you look in duane spencers books, there is a pic of him doing the same thing, with about a 3 to 4 ft bar. the pic also shows a better pic of how the fly wheel is locked down.
