Default seatbelts

i never thought i would ever say this, but now that i have an overly safety-concious wife and little daughter, has anyone added seatbelts to back seats? is it even possible?

Possible. Check my archive for some interesting discussions on it. As a note, I grew up in my 356 - first ride in it was my mother's arms on the way home from the hospital where I was born. No seatbelts and I turned out (mostly) OK.

Steve....

So how exactly do we get into your archives. Can you post the link?
I need to start cramming for the Parade Tech Quiz and I know I can lean alot from past 356talk emails.

Thanks,
JoAnne

You could - though you don't give much details on your car... I know Cs had rear mounting points that you could use either for 3pt front belts or rear belts. Earlier cars don't, but I can't recall the cutoff...

You'd still need a mount on the hump for the other end of the rear belts. It's a lot of work and you'll never know how strong it is until you need it... How'bout a helmet for the lil' girl ? ;-)

Seriously, not a small project. www.peparts.com has belts...

Steve, thanks for the response and the link to your 356talk pages. At first glance it looks like it will be informative. I agree with you about the whole safety issue. My childhood was filled with car experiences that would be considered completely unacceptable by today's standards, but I somehow made it.
