I was wondering what color ruby red was for a 1957 Speedster, was it guards? Sorry for my ignorance and if anyone has pics I would appreciate it. Also what is the best manual to buy that would have wiring pics and in depth pics of these cars?
Thanks a ton.

ruby red looks nothing like guards red. to be honest i think it would be an absolute shame to paint a vintage porsche guards red -i just dont like the shade of it myself. Paint it ruby, the color pedro posted.

There were a bunch of different Reds used for 356s over the years. Ruby Red, Signal Red, Polo Red and more. Ruby is a darker, sort of blood red compared to Signal.
Below is a pic of Signal on our Helga and a few other reds.
As far as books go, there are also a bunch available.
These are some of the best and informative......
The 356 Technical and Restoration Guide by the 356 Registry

Buying, Driving and Enjoying the 356 by Jim Schrager

Thanks guys for all of the help. I just got the COA today and it was originally Ruby Red and I bought A restorers guide to authenticity and I need more info than this. I appreciate all of the help as I am a newbie to 356s and this car is in pieces. JoAnne you where correct the car is in fact not a carrera but a standard 1600, so now a hunt for an engine begins. I thnk I may end up getting a 912 engine since this is a more powerful engine. If you guys have any thoughts on that feel free to let me know.

Here's a color chart I pulled off of John Willhoit's Web Site. John is one of the Southern California Guru's who's 356 restorations are unbelieveable!! I just love all this the old literature...........
