P.S. I'm guessing this is the Austrian survivor?
The first was destroyed, and the other was hidden by the Porsche family until American soldiers found it, chopped off the roof, and joyride it until complete destruction. The third is currently owned by an unnamed Austrian collector last I checked

That is the #3 Rome-Berlin wagen that was owned by Otto Mathe until he passed away.
Then it was auctioned away and went to a Austrian owner.
2009 it was sold to the Schörghuber Gruppe who collects nice cars and they still have it.
It is shown and driving during some of the ralleys in Europe.
Prototyp Museum Hamburg rebuilt the #2 of the Rome Berlin Wagen from parts that they obtained when buying cars and parts from the Otto Mathe estate. They used #3 to get the data correct for the new body on their "Porsche"
It is also shown and driving at various events.

Man oh man. I just went through every picture in this thread and am floored. I own a 997.2 and love it to death but it is not on the same planet as these iconic 356s. Although my money is not long enough to own one of these truly amazing cars, I will continue to enjoy looking into the 356 world from outside. You all are very very lucky to own such examples. The 356 may be the perfect car and I will always long for one.

Thanks for the kind words 140.6er. I sold my 2006 cab s in 2010 to buy my current car. The difference in driving this car vs the 911 is night and day.
I knew 2 miles from the dealer after I drove off that I had made a mistake. Cost me tens of thousands of dollars. This is my third 356 and Ill never sell this one.

Alas, I will have to live vicariously through you fortunate few...at least for now. Coming from the M3 world, the 356 is a bit like the e30 M3, but on 3 cycles of steroids.
