Here is a 356 I found. It was listed at the 356registry. Wrong color but a very nice "beginner' condition car. Here are some specifics from an email the seller sent me....

Yes it is I am asking $29,000 I am sending you spec's on it.

The following is information on my 1965 356 C- Coupe

Vin # is : 131425 it is a Karosserie body. Fardton Nr R 6405 (body
color)
It is factory Original: Light Yellow color with Tan Vinyl interior
Completed about 2001
Carpet is factory original Square Weave type: Tan & Oatmeal, with correct
insulation padding underneath.
Current mileage is at 45,725 Oct. 25,th 2004 I believe this to be original
miles.

I bought the car from Mr.. Michael J. O'Tool in Summer of 2004. He bought
the car from the original owners in Lafayette Colorado in Nov. 1987. There
name was Purgedbos, with the mileage recorded on the Title of 44,860 in
Nov. 1987. He told me that they had bought the car new in Denver and owned
it since new. In 1977 he said that they took the car all apart in order to
repaint it. They never got that done and he bought it from them after much
negotiations (about 6 months) in parts but all parts marked. He then told
me that he spent the following years until 2002 when it was completed,
restoring the car. the following I know to have been done:
Mr.. O'Tool retired from work and Colorado in Summer of 2002 and took the
car to Cape Cod Mass. He did not drive it at all due to the fact that it
was not shifting correctly for him. He delivered it to me. I have had "Car
Quip" in Boulder CO do any work necessary on the car till now. Mr. Tom
Conway of Car Quip knows the car if you would like a reference from Tom let
me know. (Tom is a nationally know Concourse judge for 356's.) They had
also dynamically balanced the clutch and pressure plate before Mr. O'Tool
took it back to Cape Cod. Tom Conway of Car Quip drove the car for 45 miles
before Mr. O'Toole took it back east.

Rebuilt engine at Appleton Motor Works (Mr. Jim McMillan did the work) He
now works for Car Quip that advertises in the 356 Registry in Boulder Co.
All new parts and accessories.
New Clutch Pressure plate and throw out bearing.
New Gas tank,
New headlight buckets
All new interior, and headliner and carpet with padding
Sandblasted car to bare metal and repainted.
New tires, New rubber kit for all rubber.
Many new trim items mirrors lights Headlight buckets etc.
Installed new engine mounts December 2004. Car Quip of Boulder changed oil
etc.
The tool kit is present.
It has new European heater system that works well. I have sanded down all
electrical connections and all light work well.
Oil & Filter change September 30 at mileage 45,425
The car has black paint on the under body and all seams are sealed with
sealing compound.
All gages work including the clock All lights work at this time, there is no
radio but it has a radio cover that is the correct one for the car. Most
tools are in the tool kit, but not all I do not believe. There is a spare
tire. All rims are Chrome in average to above average condition. There has
never been any major rust on the car. The jack boxes have been replace, and
that is all. No rust is now present. In front of the drivers door there
has been some repair work most likely from rust also the left front fender
has a weld in it about 10 inches from the drives door that can be felt
underneath the fender but can not be seen looking at the car. Most likely
was hit in this area but I do not know.
It has new correct shoulder and lap seat belts installed.
There is the correct owners manual, car cover, Porsche Factory Service
Manual, and some spare parts.
I do not have many receipts but assume that Mr... O'Toole has them. I did
not ask for them when I bought the car. I did see a receipt from Car Quip
for about $5,000 dollars for putting the finishing touches on the car
including the new gas tank, and balancing clutch etc. etc..

A few paint chips not much but a couple. The car is not a #1 car at all,
but be sure is a nice #2 car. It passed Colorado Emissions testing also. I
have had it tuned up but not adjusted the valves and I would think that they
should be done since the engine was just rebuilt.
This is just a very nice looking and running 356 that will give many years
of service as its just like a new one now

I like it!
Tom Conway at CarQuip is known as one of the "good guys". He does good work. You could/should still have another person take a look at it though. But I think if Tom says the car is this or that, you can trust it is right on.
Price is right in the range of nice C cars. Top notch C Coupes are reaching high 30s these days.
You said it's the wrong color.....what would be the right color for you? Or do you mean it's not the original color that came on the car?

Wow - last year I sold my nice 65C (crap paint but perfect body + mechanicals) for exactly 1/2 that amount !

Apparently I either mistimed the sale, or poeple are asking too much ! Damn ! good thing I found my A for the same amount !

Aside from the recent history & your ability to get a 356 concours judge's evaluation of a car he knows + your own PPI, the above quote gives me pause. I'm not questioning the honesty of the source (after all, this is now 2nd hand info), but I wonder about the content. Who takes apart a 45K car in order to repaint it? Why? An accident? {I've always wondered, what is the definition of major rust / minor rust / & of course, moderate rust?}

$29K is (I think) top dollar, #1 class, but it is #2 condition - you ok w/ that? This has the standard C motor, not the SC (may not matter, but makes the car arguably less desirable). On the other hand, you can change Champagne Yellow to Silver fairly easily (though not cheap). Good luck (be patient)!
