Default 3 speedsters crushed by train (not for the weak)

saw this on pelican

Wow, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. One of the transporters bottomed out on the train tracks. A big freight train came by and smashed the transporter to pieces, sending the Speedsters flying!

i hope no one was hurt..

I had a buddy that was not more than 100' away when that happened! He called me right after and said it was raining Porsches!!!
Very sad to look at those beautiful cars destroyed due to someones lack of foresight....

This is so unacceptable. What a horrible shame. I don't know who is at fault but whoever it is needs to be kept away from cars, trucks, trains and everything else I can think of, forever.

Angry Serious bummer...the train won

It looks as if a 911 Cabriolet bought the farm too....probably an early VIN 1983 model. I presume no humans were injured during the accident? So, is the driver of the transport negligent? Me thinks s/he is probably in a world of trouble with his employer and the owners of those cars. Not counting the cost of the damaged transport (~$50k), I wonder what the assessed value of the damaged Porsches will be:

3 fully-restored early 356 Speedsters = $50-80k each = $150k-240k
1 restored 911SC Cab = $30k
--------------------------------------------
Estimated loss $180,000 to $270,000

I wonder if any of them are beyond repair? Did the Speedsters have a unit-body chassis?

I think it really hurts more when you have owned a cherry original Speedster and restored it. Mine was not concours but nice and this sight really hurts. I have said it before, but here it is again: To drive a Speedster is to know the essence of Porsche.

Sorry tuk, but you're a liitle low with your estimates. The Black Speedster had just finished a two year restoration and was valued at $150K alone. The other two were at least $100K each.
I was sitting in the Black Speedster, to check out the headroom in a hard-top vs rag-top, earlier in the day before the wreck. In fact, that's JoAnne (in the red skirt) and me standing next to the cars in the pics on Pelican showing the"before" shots.
A sickening loss.
