Porsche 356 Speedster Quotation
Hi
I have a Porsche Speedster built by Intermechanica with an air cooled VW Type 1 engine. The vehicle was imported from the U.S. to Australia.
I took it to a Porsche/VW mechanic in Australia (Volks home automatics) and they removed the engine to install a new alternator and new clutch kit.
The metal/tin in the engine compartment was not replaced correctly and my vehicle is currently unsafe and dangerous to drive.
I have contacted Porsche in Melbourne Australia about this problem.
I can’t find anyone in Australia who is prepared to give me a quote for the removal of the engine, fixing the metal/tin surrounding the engine and fixing the damage caused to the engine.
Does anyone know where I can obtain a quotation for the above issues if I send pictures of the vehicle and engine compartment?
Thanks
Steven Goutzioulis
The metal shrouding is loose
This is the back of the vehicle
The metal tin was cut off to remove the engine and look at how they replaced it.

Yikes. Pulling an engine does not take more than an hour or so. Sourcing new tin is possible if needed but it looks like some real crap work in other areas as well.
Nobody would be likely to volunteer for "some engine damage", specifics might help.

Why did you contact Porsche? Your car is a fiberglass replica or kit car with a VW engine.
I don't see anything unsafe, just sloppy. Are you sure it wasn't like that before?
Just go to another air-cooled VW mechanic.
How about these guys? http://www.vwperformance.com.au/index.htm
Or ask these guys who they'd recommend.

Everything you ever wanted to know about replica speedsters.
From the picture it looks like you need a new heat exchangers.
The engine tin looks to be in good shape.
