Default does anyone know where to get head light grills

ive been thinking of ways to give my 912 a period correct vintage outlaw look. im planning on getting talbot mirrors soon, and i recently got a set of 65-67 headlights with the glass lenses and thin chrome rings. i just realised somthing that would look good is a set of head light grills, and the kind like these will fit.
does anyone know where i can get a set of head light grills like these?
if so how much do they cost?

i found this set on ebay, but they are pretty pricey and i wanted to weigh my options.

HARRY!!!!!!!!
I just sold a pair of 1968, never installed, still new in the box grills at the 356 Holiday! I held onto them for years and didn't want to put them on my car because the old style required drilling holes. There is a new style that screws on the head light rim with NO drilling. They are sold through the 356 Goodie store. Call Diane at 831.643.0356 and tell her you know me. She might cut a little off the price, OR she might add a buck because you mentioned my name!!!!!

Happy New Year my Friend!

hmmm.. i need to check with you a few months a head before i get these wild schemes

i believe these ones just clip on around the chrome ring.

are these the kind they sell at the goodie store (i tried to check it outmyself, but its part of the dreaded 'members only section'

personally i kinda like the chicken wire style, as they have that old carrera pan americana look to em, and are cool, but not too flashy.

you and JoAnne have a great new years, and save some of your world famous corn fixins for me!

The type that the Goodie store sells are the "wire mesh" version. These were the original European style, the second pic you posted were the later US style.

sweet!!!!!

the thing im concerned about was that the ones that mount like the US version above, utilize a tab on the chrome ring to screw into. one of the differences between the vw/356 and 911/2 headlights are that the 911/2 ones dont have that tab. im sure i can gerry rig it together though (after all there is a big hole for a screw on the bottom part of the ring, thats for headlight adjustment or head light mounting or somthing.. just bend the mount on the grill down some, and use a bigger screw!)

so tell me, before we go through this again, what else do you have in your garage thats just waiting in boxes for you to get rid of?

so how was your and JoAnn's christmas? what did you guys get each other?

thanks again!
Harry

btw.. that avatar is great!!

Lets See.......
I think the only thing for sale in the garage is the 993. And it's probably going next week. Gotta make room for the Speedster! If we had a bigger garage none of them would go, but I'm already parking my GMC Sierra outside and just can't think about parking one of the Porsches out in the cold. They are like our kids!
If I'm not mistaken the US version actually replaces the glass lens of the headlight. I never really cared for those either. If you want I can call Diane and see what I can get a pair of the wire mesh baskets for. I know they are about $275 + shipping. I might get them for a little less (?).
Other than the upcoming Speedster we had a pretty quiet Christmas. Just stayed around close to home. How about yours?

mine was pretty quiet. got some things i really needed, like a new printer. got drunk and played euchre with my aunt and uncles christmas night.. now that was a trip!

275! ouch. the ones on ebay have a buy it now price of 195, and one went earlier today for 118. so let me try my luck at those, and if all else fails i might just take you up on that!

you got a buyer for the 993? so whats going on with the speedster anyways?

I had a set of the US version grilles that came with my '54 Speedster and they did replace the glass. What a dumb idea! They look great but if you actually drive the car, all the water, bugs, and other crap go right through the grille. I put them on for about a week and then put the glass back in.
