Default 993 C4S track tire size

Need a new set of track tires (DE) and wondering if moving up a size to 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 from standard 225 and 285 is a good idea. In Michelin Sport Cups, it looks like the rear tire diameter difference is only 1/10 inch, and the fronts 3/10 inch. Wouldn't the extra tread width offer a little more grip? Any downsides?

tires fit, fronts are a big improvement over 225's. 245's fit on Hoosiers. Rears fit, but if you do not have solid bushings, you will likely get a rub on the oil lines rear inside fender. I am currently running 295s/245s on Hoosiers, 235s/285s on MPSCs. Both work well, Hoosiers have better initial grip and much faster warm up (less fussy on pressure). MPSCs last alot longer and do not fall off in the middle of hot laps.

David,

I've ran both sets, 225/285 and 235/295 in Cups. I like the 235/295 sizes better. Given that you have a wide body, fit should be no problem.

With my C2S, I like 235/285 a lot, when that is all i can get in some brands.

Are you talking about using them on the stock wheels? I just bought the 8.5" and 11" BBS GT-RS wheels and put 235 and 295s on them. I have only run 1 track weekend on them and have had no visible rubbing. The offsets for the increased wheel sizes are the same as the 996 GT3.

On stock wheels I would guess the increased rubber size would fit, but haven't experienced it myself.

Stock wide body wheels. It looks like fit would not be a problem.

see above - I am very pleased with the look of the BBS RS-GT wheels. They are dished a little so the rear is more dished than the front, which I think looks great.

I run 235/295 MPCSs on my '91 964 Turbo and like the balance a lot.

techno99 - no pictures yet. I'll try to do the wheel swap and take some pics at some point in the next few weeks. It is a little difficult to get to that with my girls --> 2 year old and 2 month old.

Maybe this weekend.

It took a little while to find the time to switch wheels and take some pics (2 kids at home), but here are the pics of the BBS RS-GTs on my car. They are 8.5 and 11 and I have had no rubbing on the widebody.
