Tial install alignment??
Other than house keeping, what is wrong with this pic?
In my field if something does not fit, it's for a reason. The xover tube goes to the Tial face. These faces could be forced into alignment, and maybe that explains why my last xover tube "donught" was cracked, but is that the correct way to do this?
It has to be something simple, what am I missing?

Do you have the adapter plates on there? I put mine in with the exhaust pipes on. I slid it into the test pipe first, then lined up the Xover. No problems whatsoever.

Hussam, both adapters are symetrical. After the virgin down tube crush ring is colapsed it may give me an additional .032" leeway.
What kill's me is the alignments are ON!

I installed the adapters to the TiAL and then attached the WG to crossover pipe to the WG adapter. I installed it and the WG as one assembly. I slid the pipe that mates with the crossover in first and the started each of the WG adapter bolts. Once everything was started, I tightened the WG adapter bolts and then the exhaust flange bolts. This seems to have been the easiest way for me.
Also, attach the boost controller lines before you bolt everything up. Once in place, its a bitch to get in there.

Ummm….wastegate backwards?
Hard to tell from the picture but it does look like the wastegate is backwards – remember that the Tial opens inwards so the valve ‘face’ should be facing the flow.

It doesn't seem to be installed backwards on the pictures, but using a vacuum fitting on the top port can sometimes be impossible especialy with the 1-piece cross over tubes.
You "should" be able to match it up.
Did you remove the old wg-bracket on the tq tube?

Dan- You might be on to something, seems like any time you do exhaust work in this area several joints have to be loosened to get alignments started.
Chris- The crossover pipe is going to the WG face.
Duke- This is the 2-piece Xover and yes the torque tube bracket is in the garage. Damn that thing is beefy!
I've learned it's best to get several "eyes on" with these cars before resorting to manhandling. Thanks guys, gotta go get a bigger hammer.....

I had the same problem installing my Tial. Despite what everyone says, it was not an easy installation (at least not in my car), but it can be done. The adapter plates do force the pipes into a different alignment than with the stock WG. The trick is first to loosen up every bolt on the adapter plates as well as on both ends of the inlet and exhaust pipe flanges. Insert the mounting bolts loosely in the adapter plates to get the Tial roughly into position. Then gradually torque down all bolts on the pipe flanges and on the adapter plates. As you tighten, the WG will take up the correct alignment. The last bit of torqueing was a bit difficult in my car because at that point the upper part of the Tial was smack up against the torque tube and resisted movement. The inlet and exhaust pipes ended up at rather skewed angles and seemed to be under a lot of stress from the skewed alignment, but it has all hung together for a year.
EDIT: Here's the link to the thread describing the problems I had.

I second what Jake said. Loosen EVERYTHING. The trick I found was rotating the exhaust tie-in pipe to get it lined up. I would also suggest that once it starts to look good, try to rotate the assembled peices so the wastegate is not resting on the torque tube. I also loctited the bolts because they backed out and I burned the gaskets. I had to take it out and wrestle it back in there again.

I agree that it is helpful to loosen everything first but please do not pry or force the WG into place. When I first installed mine it was sitting too high like yours and I had to force it to fit and it was hitting the Torque Tube. 3 months later the flanges on my crossover pipe that connect to my headers cracked. I had to remove the crossover pipe and have the flanges re-wielded. This was a huge pain in the ****. What I did this time was cut ~1.5 inches off of my Wastegate dump tube (the tube that connects right after the WG). I cut it right before the little wielded ring around the end so that the wielded ring was no longer on the car. After this the WG fit MUCH better. I highly recommend you check and see if this will work for you. Like I said, you do not want to force it. This will introduce a lot of stress on you exhaust and after several heat cycles you will get cracks.

John

John, That is a gold mine of help and to all the listers that have BTDT.
Now that I know the geometry of the car's flanges will change the bigger hammer mentality is shaping up.
I'm avoiding loosening the WG to the adapters since the safety wire is sooo beautiful.
Thanks All

Kevin, no problem. Rennlist is indeed awesome.
You don't need to loosen the WG to adapter bolts just all the rest.
here is a list of bolts that NEED to be loosened:
WG adapter to little crossover pipe extension
Crossover pipe extesnion to crossover pipe
Dump tube to cat pipe
These can be loosened if you are still having trouble lining it up:
cat pipe to Downpipe
cat pipe to catback
crossover to headers
headers to head
I never loosened any of the bolts/nuts at the turbo, or the four that connect the WG to the adapters.
Hope this helps,
John
