Funky noise...
Hello all,
A few days ago, I noticed a metallic "clank" coming from the front of the car, different from the one made by the loose front sway bar. This one seems to come from the suspension, the springs or something like that. It occurs specially when the car is going over a bump or uneven surfaces at low speed. When the car is going and at normal speed, I can't hear anything.
So I took it to the dealer today... the head mechanic and I check all over the place and also try yo induce the noise and could not hear anything.
Has anybody seen anything like this?
The mechanic made sure nothing was loose on the suspension but as soon as I left the dealer, I heard it again. If anything, it is annoying but I have not noticed any problems under hard acceleration/breaking.
Also, while lifted, I noticed that the coilovers are H&Rs, I did not know that, awesome

Ivan - Another common problem which makes a clanking sound is loose pads. Test this by seeing if the noise occurs when the brakes are applied - even lightly. If brakng cures the noise then the problem is inadequate tension on the flat spring which sits atop the pads. Bend it to increase the pressure and solve the noice problem.

Hey Bob,
It typically happens when I am going through a bump or a leveled driveway but I will test it... perfect excuse to take a quick drive....
Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 2005 GR GT3. 1300 mi so far. Same clank when going fairly slow over a bump- esecially when slightly turning the wheel (like going up a driveway from the street).
Dealer put it on the lift and said they used some type of long stethescope to listen. Says some part needs to be replaced (not sure which one). He'll install next week and I'll let you know the part replaced and if it solved the noise.

MIne does it, too. But there are clanks and clanks. I had the clank that came from having a nut completely off the front right sway bar on top of the clank that I think of as a moan. I'm going to rig a microphone up to a laptop and record this noise to post an MP3 here for you all to tell me what it is!

They are monoballs and transmit more noise to the cabin. Common sounds are a groan from the springs in tight turns at slow speed, clunk from a loose sway bar and over bumps a clack from loose pads as I described above. At the back the springs groan and the differential makes funky sounds in tight turns.
Note that clank from the pads drove my dealer nuts. My wife's GT3 made the noise over bumps and they replaced the A arm, and even the strut. Raceron was the hereo who diagnosed it properly - he noticed that the clunk did not happen if the brakes wwere applied. A little extra bend in the spring over the pads and the problem was solved. Racerron is GOOD!

Bob,
Thanks. I've eliminated the groan/sproing noises by installing torrington bearings at the top of my springs, & sway bars are loctited. Adjustable droplinks created an additional clank. I just live with the clanks, I've actually ID'd them all, and am used to them now.

The fix for all the noises is muffler bypass pipes. You can't hear any of the noises with muffler bypass pipes!
