Decided on a GT2!

the main problem with stock gt2's is solved on your car: heavy wheels! excellent.
now get GT3 seats or install Cobra Suzuka's for support and to lose some weight and you'll have one righteously fun car!!!!

Finally got to drive it...
The GT2 finally showed up on a rainy, chilly, New Year's Eve. I drove it straight off the truck and into my garage, all the while cursing the sodden, salt covered roads.
I knew that more snow and ice was around the corner, and that the car wouldn't get any serious miles on it until spring. I wished for some rain and nice 50 degree days to clean the snow and salt on the roads so that I could get just a little taste of this incredibly bad *** machine.
Well the weather cooperated, and I did, and it was sweeeet!
A few observations:
The looks are perfect. No need for any gaudy aftermarket add-ons. With the way it sits, the boxed chin of the front bumper, and the rear wing with integrated air intakes, it looks so right. Subtle changes have made the car so much more purposeful, striking yet tough, than the standard Turbo. Only complaint are the amber side markers which are on their way out.
The car is abit more raw than I expected- the steering more precise and sensitive, rivaling the feel of my previous Porsche, a 993TT.
The shifter snicks through the gates with a precision not felt in other Porsches, and seems to be more direct than standard 996 Turbos. Do GT cars have a different shifter than Turbos? I can feel the steel syncros engaging the gears with more mechanical solidity and directness than the standard 996TT box. Feels slightly like driving a dogbox on the street...
The rear diff has alot more lock up than I anticipated, resulting in tremendous straight-ahead, full throttle grip, especially considering the relatively low temp and slightly damp roads.
The engine is awesome- it sounds great inside the car, especially at full chat, alot more mechanical noises coming into the cabin than I seem to remember in the standard Turbo. (Windows down, driving along a guardrail or through a tunnel is a different story, at full boost the exhaust taking on the sound of a hyperventilating Darth Vader on crack... I'll have to do something about that...)
The package as a whole- fantastic! I have only clocked about 100 miles so far and it is snowing as we speak. The car is extremely quick, solid, lively and very, very special. Power on oversteer in 2nd and 3rd is easily managed, the car telegraphing perfectly, the engine responding deftly to throttle modulation, the steering reacting fluidly yet immediately to quick steering inputs. Most surprising, the GT2 actually rides better than my daily driver, a bone-stock Subaru STi.
I have an alignment scheduled, as well as the car's first annual maintenance. Clear corners and console delete are on the way.
So that is about all. I am so happy to have become the privileged owner of such an incredible car. The purchase was a big step for me, but has proven to be totally worth it. I look forward to more miles when weather permits, but for now I have the STi to enjoy in the snow...
