Sell my 996 for 997
I am really concerned that my 996 is the next 912. A bastard 911. Enthusiasts seem to have passed over the 996 and moved to the 997 as the next 911....I love my car and hoped to keep it fovever. But now I see the that air cooled guys have a real attitude toward my car. They really disrespect my car...I know that Porsche is a 2 syllable word....I am a fanatic about driving and servicing my car. It is a daily driver but SO what!!!,,,its garaged every night and washed 3 times a week....what gives...am I destined to be in the lower class or will the group finally accept me

Oh brother! Don't worry about "some people" accepting you. Are you that insecure? Enjoy your car for what it is, and forget everyone else. Did you buy your car because it's a Porsche or because you enjoy it??

It seems to me that the changes in the 996 from '01 to '02 were almost equal in magnitude to the 996 to 997 transition. The '01 to '02 transition offered a 3.4l to 3.6l upgrade, chassis refinement, aerodynamic improvement, interior upgrades, etc. The 996 to 997 offers a 3.6l to 3.6l upgrade (OK, 3.8l in the S's), chassis upgrade, a new interior, and round headlights.
My point is that it would be kind of ridiculous for someone to accept the 997 after rejecting the 996.

Porsche instills a kind of passion that turns educated professionals into bickering 7th graders. Sort of comical. Anyway, I'm in the minority and love the 996 headlights, and think the 996s are beautiful (contributing to my purchase last week). From an aesthetic viewpoint, I fail to see why everyone has such a woody for the 997. From pics anyway, it looks like a widebody 996 with oval lamps. Of course, from a performance standpoint, the chassis refinements and suspension overhaul appear to really awaken things.
In the end, what really matters is enjoying the drive. The top 10 driver's cars of all time in Excellence were dominated by modern cars: The 996 GT3, 996 TT, 996 C4S, Boxster (yet another bastard child that the purists hate), and of course the GT. The only 993 to make the list was not available in the US, the 993 Carrera RS 3.8. Don't worry about the blind passion the dyed in the wool air cooled guys have, enjoy your car. It's a great one.

In my eyes all Porsches are beautiful machines. They each have their own characteristics and soul. If I had the money I would own one of every model (even a 924 )
You would hope that as a car manufacturer Porsche will continue to IMPROVE it's vehicles. I really hope the 997 is an improved 911 from my 996... however, certain cars will tug at your heart strings no matter what. I believe right now that the C4S and Turbo are the most beautiful Porsche's in their history. JMO

Even if you buy a Maybach you will still get your share of haters. There are always people in the world who just like to mouth off - it's easy to nitpick and talk trash about anything.
I love my 996 (actually I love all four of my cars) and that's that.

Yeah, don't worry what others might think... Just get yourself a REAL Porsche. j/k!!!
One thing's for sure: Frayed has it right. We do tend to turn into 4th graders (7th graders are way too mature for this particular comparison).
Cheers,
Chris

ninetynine996, you have one of the best car out there. As much as I like the 993 and 964, I'll take a 996 in a heart beat. This is call progress. Some people prefer an air cooled engine to a water cooled one, and this is absolutely fine, why bothered by that ? After all choices are what make this world wonderful. Enjoy your car !!

ninetynine99 come to California, and bring your 996 too. We left coasters have a great appreciation for both 912s and 996s.
so just chill, and know that you can be proud of your car.
BTW: let's see some pictures of your ride.
