How did you get that metal bracket for the rubber thingie out, and where did you get the clear piece?

 

I think the rubber thingie is a US-market item. Something to do with the US regulations for bumpers. My Euro and all the others I've seen here in South Africa have the clear piece fitted. It has a 928 part number.

 

I have been looking to buy these clear lenses and associated parts, but have not found the source. Can you help? Thanks

 

The lenses can be got from Joakim Jansson <Joakim-Jansson@swipnet.se>. I'm working on some pics I took, writing up the procedure ... should have something by this evening.

Those clear side pieces are part # 928 631 961 00, and are named "TRIM" They are a "Euro" part, however any dealer can order them in.

They are sold as a set. Both left and right sides (of the same fog light).

I don't remember how much they cost, but I think they were under $20 a side. They are installed by just screwing in the little SS screw just like the regular US inboard piece.

As I wrote before, to use these clear trim pieces the metal 5 mph impact bracket has to be removed. It is wrapped in behind the lens housing, so the housing must be removed to get it out. Once the lens housing is removed you just have to drill out the small rivet that is holding it to the bumper cover.

Now in my car, when the lenses were removed from the lens housings (attached to the car), the 3 mounting bolts were recessed into the plastic at the back of the housing. This made them impossible to get off with out removing the bumper cover. However Chuck Z wrote that he could get his housings off by simply unbolting them from inside the housing. If this is true for your car, it is a simple 15 min job.

Go out to your car and remove a fog light lens. Look into the housing and see if there are 3 bolts that can be removed to get the housing off. If they are there, then you are golden. If the housing bolts are recessed into the plastic in the housing like mine, than the cover has to come off.

Didn't mean to steal your thunder Heinrick, but I think Flott asked me before, but I forgot. Sorry Flott.

I've been thinking though. If you guys have no trouble getting your lens housings off, maybe I have a set of 951 housings??? One of my lights was 951 when I got the car. I ditched the lens because it had a different profile that the S4 bumper cover, and the S4 lens went in perfect. I just assumed the housings were 928. I will have to check their part #'s.

Oh well, if they come out with ease, it is a real nice "cheap" mod!

No thunder there Mike :-) You've done a lot of very cool things with your car. Post a pic so we can see about the model ....

 

I just installed the clear euro trim and clear turn signals lenses on tonight. I used a 3/4 inch hole saw without the center guide bit. This allows you to cut thru the metal bracket around the two studs. Worked like a champ, just be careful. You cut the bracket but could always put them back on. The rivets would hold them in place. If you don't want to cut it you will need to remove the cover.

PS: I have used this 3/4 inch hole saw to remove 5 twisted off wheel lug nuts. I used a dowel where the center bit was as a depth guide.

 

You will not ever have to remove the cover.
