Default Extended Warranty Choice Question

I have a 2008 Carrera 6sp with 30000 miles. Porsche warranty will expire in May. I would like to purchase extended warranty to cover major items - engine & transmission.

What are my options?
Which companies to stay away from?
Any relative experiences?

Thanks for all replies..

I bought mine TODAY!!
Advantage protection plan by protective
$100 disappearing deductible - means if I bring to porsche for repair I have $0 deductible
3yrs from purchase
up to 75k miles - im at 41 so 34k more miles
price = $2978

For$150 less I could have had $100 deductible no matter what

I read the whole warranty book - its an exclusionary policy...Its pretty close to bumper to bumper except of course wear and tear like brakes and tires and it does not cover interior peices - like broken radio ****, faded leather or cracking platic or a rip in the convertible top.. It does cover the NAV system and the touch screen.

I called fidelity - they would not write a policy on my car - don't know about other years etc...but not for a 2010

My manuf warranty expires at the end of March

Based on another thread about CNA I got some great prices on a CNA warranty from Rick Shaw @bakermotorcompany 843-852-4030

I have attached the exclusionary Policy that I am looking over and it seems pretty good. It' is the preferred package which is the top they offer and the only one they will write for Porsche's.

I am looking at 7 year 60K (total on OD) miles for $2500 with 200 deductible. (there's a 5 year 40K for $1800 which seems very reasonable)

My factory warrantee runs out in a little over a week, so any thoughts about this plan would be appreciated, as I need to pull the trigger before my warrantee lapses.

My only hesitation is it says you have to keep up with all manufacturers suggested service, and I'm wondering if all of that is necessary and will add to the cost.

Vape, that sounds like a pretty good deal. I would just examine whether you think you would keep it over 3 years and if so go to the 5 year policy. I think with these cars a warranty is a good idea. You may never use it - but man if you do it will make you one happy dude you had it! That's the way I feel about them and what I intend to do when I get one. Warranty is a lot of peace of mind and if there is any car in the world where that is nice to have it's a Porsche!

I tend to keep cars a long time. Actually till they start to cost a lot to repair which for me has been the 9-10 year mark. Hoping to keep this Targa for 8 years or so, so thats why I'm looking at the 7 year plan. 8 year plan was a thousand more but 75K miles. This is my first P-car. The 4 year old car would be about 11-12 years with about 60K miles when I sell it. Still hoping it's worth something by that point.

If you keep it that long get a long warranty to go with it - you'll be glad you did I think.

What about extended warranties from actual Porsche dealers? In Atlanta Jim Ellis uses one and Hennessy uses another, but my assumption is if they sell it themselves there's no way they won't honor it. And I would also assume Porsche dealers are pretty strict, so if the warranty is good for them it can certainly be used in other indy shops no problem. Price though seems to be high. I once asked about it when shopping for cars, and I got quotes of $4000 for only one or two years of coverage.

I just spoke with a trusted porsche repair shop who indicated they felt aftermarket warrantees were mostly worthless, as they try not to pay off as much as possible. They also felt the 997.2 was a solid enough car that there shouldn't be any major failures that would be covered anyway. They had not heard of any PDK failures. Also they indicated that Porsche's recommended service was quite extensive (I understood it to mean overkill) and I suppose if I didn't do everything on the list, a claim could be denied. Now I'm completely unsure how to proceeded.

I will at least have one shot at getting my car looked at by the dealer under warrantee. I am noticing a strong exhaust smell (like it's too rich) when I turn off the car, and the shop said it could be a coolant or oil leak. any thoughts on that?
