Pulled the trigger on a 3.8 RS inspired 964 - development journal
found a heavily modified 1990 C2 with light interior and boxer wheels ... I might be a bit mad.
It's been auto-crossed for 2 years.
... could have got a stock, clean low miler at the price. And driven it home.
I guess its ok .. its only got 75k kms on it. Straight lines too.
Have I jumped the gun? Gone to deep? Made a mistake?!
(think Monkey boy Harris voiceover)
Oh, but it has new Recaros. And Cup Suspension. And a 993 LSD.
As well as lightweight FW & clutch & exhaust ....
and best of all only 4k kms ago an EVO2 camshafts etc 3.8L engine!
It's about 60mm lowered. I'm pretty damn excited!
Per the receipts from 2010: All new cylinders, pistons, rings, Evo 2 camshafts, bearings.
New exhaust valves and ports polished. Diktator engine management (anyone?)
3.8RS lightweight flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. All fitted by OPC.
Balanced lightweight exhaust system, with dual outlets. Fitted 993 RS LSD.
Cup springs and shocks, fully adjustable. Lowered by 60mm.
Brakes - new Zimmerman front discs & Pagid Orange pads. Rear stock.
Has 993 mirrors I think and weighs 1245kgs (2744 lbs) wet (half tank).
Original parts, seats, aircon, exhaust, rims with new MPSCs, engine under panels
and the full original toolkit, spare keys, some SRF and Shell and a cover.
Now just the ageless wait for the transporter! Could be a week!
But while I wait I'll plot a few little things ... brake ducts, a 2nd hand cup steering wheel perhaps?
Please school me - all I know about 964's is they look great and remind me of my 996 cup's directness.
I've been missing my road driving since I jumped to the cup ... might need to soften 'a bit' but the 64 is the solution.

Great move! Don't get hung up on the need for original wheels just so that it looks period....as long as they're round, strong, not too heavy and have good rubber on, that's all you need. After all, neither you or anyone else can see the wheels when you're driving fast on track.

Three Wheelin'
Nice!! Definitely a really interesting car with some great mods. I would also recommend some CUP1s, those Boxter wheels are not my favourites..
And in 964 terms 75Ks is nothing!!!

thanks Geordie - looks like your C2 been on similar weight-loss program! Are you UK based? G=Northener right?
I ask as I'm sick of the shipping costs to SA and my Guern sister is coming down soon.
I could ask her to add a set of Cup rims to her luggage - I'll tell her they're lightweight
But seriously ... who do you like for mod supplies up there - 911UK, Gert @ Carnewal?
Please let me in on a few secrets!
WTD - nice one thanks!
Boxsey - thanks! & true enough ... like the fan in that pic. As a declared UK'r .. pls see above too!
Jack - cheers! agreed on that wheel view. Oops I meant 98k kms .. but still low enough (75k when sold by OPC in 2009). Ditto re UK rec's please.

Sounds great, especially the 3.8 litre engine and the fact that you have all the original parts if you do want to go the softer route. Looks great in the white with blue decals and wheels. If you do swap out the 996 wheels for Cup Ones, I would paint them the same blue.

thanks Guys ... and for the headsup Kai
Frank that Betty of yours had no small part to play in my 'thought process'
Can I ask where did you source the non-orange side markers?
AND ... as Steen pointed out below - that's my 964th Post - must be a good sign!

IIRC they came from Porsch-Apart on eBay, trick is to also get silver/ clear indicator bulbs so the orange doesn't shine through like mine:

Now that is one of the best decisions you've ever made!
White 964s can look incredible...gold bbs' particularly suit...and they save weight ;-) ...and saving weight is probably all thats left to do if you're into mods!
