Tuned Porsche 911 Turbo S Sends 700 lb-ft to All Four Wheels: Track Time Thursday Presented by Yokohama Tire’s All-New ADVAN APEX

Porsche 991.1 picks up impressive power from a relatively simple mod list.

The 991.1 Porsche 911 Turbo S is a beast in stock form, offering 552 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque from the turbocharged, 3.8-liter flat-six. However, as the video above from the Payam H YouTube channel proves, simple modifications and a good tune can add gobs of horsepower and torque, making the boosted 911 even more capable of beating up other European exotics.

Porsche 991.1 Mod List

The Porsche 911 Turbo S in the video above is working out on the dynamometer at Weistec in Anaheim, California. This particular 991 is the development car for Burger Tuning and in this footage, they are testing an assortment of pretty common upgrades. This includes the BMS JB4 tuner set up to run an E50 ethanol blend, BMS air intakes, a BMS y-pipe, an IPD plenum, a BMS chargepipe port injection and a straight-pipe exhaust setup from the turbocharger back.

So this Porsche 911 Turbo S has intake and exhaust modifications, along with an E50 tune on the BMS JB4 tuning device. Those are all fairly common, simple upgrades, but as you see in the video, they make a big difference in terms of power output.

Turbo S on the Dyno

The video above begins as the man behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 Turbo S brings up the engine speed, as all four wheels spin on the dyno. Surprisingly, this 991 isn’t quite as loud as you might expect for a straight-pipe exhaust system, but it does sound great as it reaches its peak potential.

As the dyno winds down, the guy with the camera walks up to the driver’s window for a look at the laptop, on which the graph is displayed. We can see peak numbers of 614.17 horsepower and 700.24 lb-ft of torque at all four wheels. We don’t have the baseline numbers for this car, but if we apply a very conservative drivetrain loss factor of 18%, those wheel figures would equate to around 750 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque; both of which are massive improvements over the stock figures of 552 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque during overboost.

While our calculated numbers may be high, these estimates leave little question as to why these modifications and this tuning system are so popular, making the 991.1 even more of a beast on the track.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
