Porsche and Almond

Porsche collaborates with Almond Surfboard to create a line surfboards and apparel that combine Porsche and California surf culture.

So, you finally got your dream long-hood 911. You love the car, and it has gotten you into the vintage accessory mood. You bought a new set of Coco Mats, Porsche Classic motor oil, maybe a Pepita Key Pouch and of course some classic Porsche print ads to hang around your garage. Life is good. But still, you feel that something is missing. What is that one perfect accessory that would really tie everything together? How about a $5,500 Irish Green surfboard to match your car? Well, you are in luck! Porsche and Almond Surfboard have collaborated on a new limited-edition line of surfboards that are inspired by classic Porsche colors and liveries.

You read that right, Porsche and surfboards. It is part of the Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines collection. It is meant to pay homage to the southern California and Porsche culture of the 1960s. Just as the surfing scene was exploding in the area, a new sports car called the 911 was reaching our shores and making waves. So, why not celebrate both with a line of surfboards, accessories and apparel?

Classic 911

Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines

The Porsche x Almond surfboards are hand-crafted in Costa Mesa, California. They are available in three iconic Porsche colors. Bahama Yellow, Polo Red and Irish Green. Are those classic colors a bit too mild for you? You will be happy to learn that you can also choose the famous Pink Pig racing livery. Perfect if you happen to have a 1971 917/20 race car in your garage. Each board will be individually numbered and feature racing number ‘63’ to reflect the year the Porsche 911 was revealed. You have the option of selecting another number if you want. The bottom of the board has a black Porsche logo.

“All boards are made of Polyurethane foam with basswood stringers and wrapped in a fiberglass shell with two layers of 6 oz cloth on the deck and one layer of the bottom. The accompanying single fin is hand-foiled from 36 layers of 6 oz fiberglass cloth and each surfboard comes with an elegant wooden wall bracket for display.” The boards come in two sizes. The 7-foot-by-10-inch “Cash-Yew II” has a suggested price of $4,500. The 9-foot-by-11 inch (yes really 911) “Surf Thump” long board will set you back $5,500. How much is the Porsche tax? Well, a standard 7-foot-by-10-inch Cash-Yew II from Almond starts at $1,775. And a 10-foot Surf Thump can be had for $1,695. But they don’t match your Porsche, do they?

Surf apparel

More than Surfboards

If surfing is not your thing or the price is a bit too steep, you can still celebrate the Porsche and surf collaboration with some apparel. There is a black pull-over hoodie and a heather grey sweatshirt for $155 each. Keep the sun off your head with a black trucker cap with a “Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines” patch for $55.

There is an “ignition on the left” leather key chain for $35. And an iron-on patch for just $15. They are all designed and printed in California. And for those worried about the pollution your air cooled 911 is pumping out you will be happy to learn that these items are packaged in sustainable, paper-based bags instead of plastic.
