Reigning Porsche 911 may soon be overtaken by electric Porsche Taycan in sales.

The Porsche Taycan is battery powered and pivotal for the Volkswagen electric-car transition. Barely a month past its official unveiling, Porsche has received close to 30,000 orders for the Taycan. According to Bloomberg News, Porsche is deciding to increase its yearly production on the battery-powered vehicle to reach 40,000.

The initial target for the Taycan production per year started at 20,000 vehicles. Porsche planning to use a two-shift system for the manufacturing process. Clearly, that was a production number that had to increase to meet consumer demand. With that, Porsche has been growing its manufacturing capacity in recent months. Hiring over 1,000 workers to meet the goal of 1,500 new hires needed for production. Those new hires will undergo an electric-car assembly training that lasts up to six months.

With Porsche delivering 35,600 of its 911 in 2018, it seems the Taycan will soon surpass the iconic 911 in sales. The possibility of an electric-powered vehicle overtaking the Porsche 911 in sales is a big indicator of consumers’ interest. Bringing the brand into a new generation of alternative power and away from the combustion engine.

A change that Volkswagen AG, the parent company of Porsche and many other automotive lines, is hedging on. The boom in Taycan orders is vital for Volkswagen as it will soon reveal a wide range of electric-powered vehicles. Volkswagen garnering attention to their new lines of battery-powered cars is imperative for their future success.

Porsche Taycan buyers can put down a $2,800 deposit to insure their vehicle order, with the final price to be roughly $90,000. All U.S. and European dealerships will be equipped with fast chargers that are accessible to Taycan owners. Within four minutes, the fast charger can power a Taycan’s battery to attain 100 kilometers. The Porsche Taycan can run 500 kilometers on a single charge.

It is clear that the dawning of a new era is upon the car industry. Consumers are eager to jump into and behind the wheel of battery-powered vehicles. With that, industry leaders such as Porsche and Volkswagen are listening. Electric cars are taking the forefront of technology, speed, and style.

Raised around her family’s colorful imports and antique mechanic shop, and with a car museum as a classroom. Yes, really, she was homeschooled out of a car museum. She still has problems with fractions. Caitlin is most at home wandering alone in a car museum or popping a beer behind the desk of her father’s mechanic shop, Shook Enterprises.

With a constant flow of beloved antique and classic sports cars running through the family business, it’s no wonder the origin of her automobile passion.

In efforts of making Caitlin less of a troublemaking brat during her teenage years, her father found a 1976 Porsche 912e to absorb her time. She, with the expert supervision of Steve Shook and Sidney Arnold, began a total restoration. Engine overhaul, all mechanicals, EVERY DAMN THING.

After that, she would soon learn the mind-bending qualities of auto bodywork. Taking the 912e down to metal while branding herself with a heat gun multiple times. Plus, did you know airplane acid hurts like the dickens if you get it a piece of curling paint covered in it stuck between your leg and your sock? It does. Once down to metal, it was clear the Porsche 912e had been applied Bondo by a Jackson Pollock admirer. Anyways, enough about the restoration.

Now she spends her time good spiritedly harassing mechanics at the family shop, drinking whatever beer is in the fridge, and creating informal YouTube videos on beloved cars to post on The Bad Blonde CARS + TRAVEL.

She hopes you like her work, and if you don’t, best you keep it to yourself.
