Porsche Owner Gets Ticket for Expired Plates, Blames Fortune Teller!
Who could have seen this coming? Oh wait….
Look, most of us at some point have tried to talk our way out of a ticket. The excuses we’ve heard (or possibly used ourselves) have run the gamut from “That speed limit sign was blocked by a tree,” to “I know my plates are expired, but I was on jury duty,” and “I am not going to lie, I’m from out of town, we are legally allowed to turn right on red.” If you’re keeping score at home, two of those worked. However, a particular Porsche motorist in China decided to give a police a rather unusual reason for his expired plates.
According to the South China Morning Post, the owner of a new Porsche, referred to as Mr. Zhu, was stopped by traffic enforcement because his car was displaying expired temporary plates.
“It is a new car and a fortune teller told me the plates must not be put up in April,” the driver told officers. “I need to wait for an auspicious day, which has not been decided yet, to do that for road safety and a prosperous business.”
Oh sure, that old chestnut.
Even sillier was the fact that Zhu actually had the new plates in his Porsche. But he refused to put them on as per the instructions of his Carnac the Magnificent-like advisor.
As a result of listening to the voices from the great beyond, he paid the price. He temporarily lost his drivers license until he completes and passes a traffic test, and 12 points were deducted from his license. Oh, and he will have to pony up 200 yuan, which is approximately $30 in American money. And that new Porsche sits collecting dust in the interim.
We’re not sure if Zhu was being honest–and way too superstitious–or just trying to talk his way out of a ticket. Either way, this dude must have some big crystal balls.

Our take? Leave the fortune teller’s suggestions to lottery numbers and out of anything that gets you between you and your Porsche.
