World’s largest gathering of classic Porsche racing cars & their legendary riders starts today in California. 

Tens of thousands of motorsport fans are expected to attend the event at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, California. The Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) -oriented racing reunion takes place every three to four years.

This year the meeting has a special meaning. 70 years ago – more precisely on June 8, 1948 – the Porsche 356 “Nr. 1 “Roadster its operating permit. This date is considered the birth of the Porsche brand.

The racing reunion was launched in 2001 to commemorate Porsche’s motorsport legacy. Meanwhile, the event is the largest gathering of Porsche racing cars and their drivers worldwide. The motto “Marque of Champions”, chosen for 2018, alludes to the legends that Porsche has produced: championships victorious racing cars, their designers and racing drivers who have rushed with them around the world from success to success.

“For us, the Rennsport Reunion is a great family reunion,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA. “We always get goosebumps when we can celebrate our rich history and long tradition with those who make the Porsche brand what it is – the owners, fans and drivers of our cars.”

Around 50 driver legends, 500 historic Porsche models and customer vehicles – of which 350 compete in competitions – as well as the entire Porsche Factory Team will be present.

As a highlight of the event, the fans can look forward to the original copy of the Porsche 356 “Nr. 1 “Roadster pleased. Its shape, lines and lightweight design has become the model for all sports cars from Porsche.

For the fifth edition of the racing reunion in 2015 at the Laguna Seca race track, more than 60,000 Porsche fans gathered. It was the biggest meeting of three days in the history of the event so far.

This year, among others, former Porsche champions Hurley Haywood, Derek Bell and Jacky Ickx and 13 active Porsche factory drivers, including Timo Bernhard as driver of a 919 Hybrid EVO, will take part. Also present are the legendary Porsche engineers Norbert Signer and Hans Mezger, two of the most influential racing car designers in automotive history.

Discussions with Drivers and Porsche Boards

In addition to the impressive exhibition of Porsche vehicles, the program includes various autograph sessions, stage discussions with members of the board and legendary drivers of the company, technology and design seminars as well as competitions and the opportunity for personal encounters around the Porsche Park in the paddock. Of course, small giveaways should not be missing.

Several thousand members of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) will show their award-winning Porsche vehicles in the reserved area. They also have the opportunity to make daily sightseeing and compete in their own racing group in races that conclude with the finals on Sunday.
