Porsche's New 911 Soundbar Black Edition Hits All the Right Notes

Limited to only 911 units, high-tech soundbar promises flawless sound quality coupled with classic Porsche style.

Porsche took inspiration for the new Porsche Design 911 Soundbar Black Edition from the iconic 911 GT3 race car. Drawing from the electric experience of riding in a GT3, as well as its staggering exhaust note, Porsche Design developed an immersive sound system that offers not only a high-caliber sonic performance, but also a speaker with bold Porsche style.

The 911 Soundbar Black Edition speaker–limited to only 911 units–is set to debut in stores next month. The design of the soundbar is the rear silencer and tailpipe of the Porsche 911 GT3, making this a feast for both the eyes and the ears.

Utilizing hand-finished original parts from a GT3, the muffler and tailpipe cover were converted into subwoofers that promise “smooth, rich bass tones.” Each speaker is treated with a powder coating that creates a sleek, matte finish. The tailpipe covers in glossy black complement the aesthetic with an especially sharp and unique monochromatic feel.

But the soundbar doesn’t just look incredible. Porsche Design aims to deliver “unparalleled acoustics and powerful bass.” The unit is well appointed and utilizes the most progressive technology that includes a 200-watt, 2.1 virtual surround system; Dolby Digital decoder; DTS TruSuround; Bluetooth 3.0 wireless interface; stereo and virtual surround sound; a single analog and two digital analog inputs; and an LED display.

The 911 Soundbar Black Edition retails for $4,250 and can pre-ordered at Porsche Design. Starting in October, it will available for purchase at Porsche Design Stores and Porsche Experience Centers.
