Porsche Cayman GTS Takes on Intimidating Klausen Pass (Video)

By -

Cayman is put to the test on a narrow, winding, and windy stretch of mountain road.

The Klausen Pass in the Swiss Alps is a beautiful, scenic, high mountain pass. But it might not exactly be where you want to go for a brisk drive. It is a true challenge for most drivers, and certainly most vehicles. In this video posted on YouTube by slaWterCH, we get a driver’s point-of-view of what it’s like to tackle such an endeavor in a Porsche.

The scenery is gorgeous, but we couldn’t help thinking, “Scenery-schmenery, this car is literally flying high speed up a narrow road on a mountain!” The video feels a bit like riding a roller coaster at first, tense and uncertain, and a little nauseating. But the driver and the Porsche have no fear as the ride escalates, taking corners with great ease, when some of us might rather be taking a sedative. The 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine sounds and performs great, and the driver couldn’t appear more chill.

As the driver ascends, the road gets increasingly more treacherous, plus there’s the added elements of tunnels, sharp craggy walls, and, oh yeah, the side of a mountain just feet away. The driver doesn’t seem bothered, and even speeds up frequently, especially as he passes other cars and cyclists. The speedometer can be seen going well over 70mph, and yet the car seems completely in control.

The camera work is well done and gives a sense of the car’s power. One camera is mounted outside the car to hear that engine rev, accelerate, purr, shift, and one inside the car, where all is silent and zen.

We knew the Porsche Cayman looked incredible, but this video truly impresses at how the car handles and sounds. Would you feel confident taking on the Swiss Alps? Check it out, and share your thoughts with us in the comments.
