Porsche 992 Turbo S Is Fast but Is It KTM MotoGP Motorcycle Fast

Turbo S vs KTM MotoGP

Turbo S has beaten almost every car it can find in a drag race. But can it compete with a KTM MotoGP and road bike?

The 992 Turbo S is insanely quick for an internal combustion powered car. In a drag race there are very few cars that can keep up with it. The power, the all-wheel-drive, and the lightning quick PDK make for a nearly unbeatable combination. However, this time it may have bitten off more than it can chew. When there are no more cars to beat, you turn your attention to motorcycles. Of course, motorcycles can be insanely quick and the bikes in this race are two of the quickest you can find. One is a KTM RC16 which is a race-ready MotoGP bike and costs as much as the Porsche. The other is a KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo road bike. These are not exactly Harley-Davidson Road King bikes, these KTM bikes can absolutely fly.

A video was recently posted on the carwow YouTube channel. This video shows the footage of a drag race between the 992 Turbo S and the aforementioned bikes. It is fascinating to watch not just how they perform against the Porsche but against each other. They are lightweight rocket ships. The Porsche has more power, and more tire contact patch to launch with. But the bikes have insane power to weight ratios and very experienced riders. This will be close. Or will it?

Race Time

Even as the biggest Porsche fan you have to know that the Porsche is in big trouble in this race. The KTM bikes are serious speed machines. But the Porsche is no slouch and in the first drag race the Turbo S takes both of them off the line and builds a decent lead. If the race was only one-eighth of a mile the Porsche might have been able to hold on for the win. But it was a full quarter mile and by that distance the KTM MotoGP bike destroys the Porsche. But the Turbo S did manage to beat the street bike. In a roll race the MotoGP again takes the win with the street bike taking second place and the Turbo S bringing up the rear. But in the braking test the Porsche does beat both bikes and stops quicker than either.

Car or Bike?

Here is the thing though. Sure, the bikes are fast. The KTM MotoGP did the quarter in just 9.2 seconds. But the 992 did a still very quick 10.3. And that same Porsche you can get in and drive to a 10.3 second quarter mile in a pair of sneakers and shorts. The bikes will require helmets and leathers if you want even a modicum of safety. The Porsche will also take you, your wife and your two small children for dinner. Good luck getting the whole family on the back of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo. You can drive the Porsche in the rain without getting wet and will even do amazingly well in the snow with proper tires. The fact that the Porsche can even hang with these bikes yet offer so much more practicality is amazing.

Now what?

KTM bikes

We don’t think seeing the Turbo S lose a race like this should prompt owners to rush out and buy KTM bikes. But hey, if bikes are your thing, you can get a KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo for about $20,000. That is a hell of a performance bargain for something with that level of performance. You could spend that much on just two options for the Porsche. If bikes aren’t your thing, and you are still not sold on the idea of an all-electric car the Turbo S remains one of the quickest rides on the market.
