When you say the new 911 Turbo S will be the “fastest-accelerating 911 ever made,” you’re talking about beating some very quick cars.

Porsche has been making their signature ride since 1973, back when Tony Orlando and Dawn’s “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” topped Billboard‘s Hot 100. But unlike Dawn, the 911 is still running hot, with the new Turbo S coming down the pike at 205 mph. 205!

To celebrate such engineering, The Telegraph is reveling in over 40 years of astonishing automotive achievement with a brief but wondrous history of the 911 Turbo. While it’s certainly not an all-inclusive historical novel, the 12-slide gallery does get you from the 1973 Frankfurt show till the 2016 Detroit show, powerfully speaking.

The first Porsche 911 Turbo, the marque’s first turbocharged road car, was fitted with a 3-liter, 276 bhp turbo. And it’s kind of fun to sequentially watch the horsepower numbers climb from there, right up to today’s monstrous 3.8L H-6 producing 572bhp and powering the car from 0-62 mph in just under 3-seconds.

We’ve included the evolutionary looks of the 911 Turbo in the gallery below, but head on over to The Telegraph to get all the juicy details. Then let us know which one’s your favorite on the forum.
