Porsche 911 Runs 8s in Street Form: Track Time Thursday Presented by Yokohama Tire’s All-New ADVAN APEX

Porsche 911 sets the 991 world record, running an 8.71 at 164 while also topping 200 in the half mile.

While the Porsche 911 is one of the greatest sports cars in global automotive history, designed to shine brightest on a technical track with lots of turns, they are also fairly quick in the quarter mile. Most 911 owners will find that their car will outrun many performance cars on a drag strip in stock form, but for those who want to be one of the quickest street cars on the quarter mile, the aftermarket has plenty of answers.

The video above comes to us from the dbriegs Videos YouTube channel and it features a Porsche 911 that set the 991 quarter mile record earlier this year, running an awesome 8.71. This 991 is owned by forum member “8SecDD” and while we don’t know for sure if this record still stands, this is still one of the quickest street-driven 911s in the world.

Porsche 911 Record Build

This Porsche 991 911 features the ES Motors ES1100+ package, which was installed by AIM Performance in New Jersey and tuned by Emre Levent. This package includes unspecified “full bolt-ons”, a pair of upgraded Garrett GTX35 turbochargers, a fully built-and-stroked 4.2-liter engine, a beefed-up fuel system, methanol injection and a Syvecs ECU, with a set of Dodson clutches in the PDK transmission helping to handle the power. To be more specific, the transmission has to handle more than 1,100 rear wheel horsepower on Q16 race fuel, which the owner states has “a table top curve, not tuned for peak hp, but for real-world track results.”

Porsche 911 Rear

Needless to say, his track results prove that it was tuned to do be a beast in the real world, serving as a street car, covering the half-mile in more than 200 miles per hour and setting the world record for the quickest quarter mile time by a Porsche 911 from the 991 generation.

Setting the Record

In the video above, this Porsche 911 is making a pass at Cecil County Dragway, which is generally known for great track prep and great air, but on the day that the video was captured, it was hot and humid, leading to a density altitude of 2,435 feet. That is not great air, but it didn’t stop 8SecDD from resetting the 991 record that he set in August of 2018. Back then, he ran 8.808, but with some tuning adjustments, he headed to Cecil to see what it could do in bad air.

Porsche Wheels Up

It turns out that it is a real beast, carrying the front wheels a bit and running an 8.713 at 162.86 and backing it up later in the day with an 8.710 at 164.01 miles per hour. On the quicker run, this Porsche pulled a 1.410 60-foot time and got to the eighth mile marker in just 5.7 seconds.

We get to watch the record run from trackside at first, followed by in-car footage of the 991 setting the record, both of which offer a great look at one of the quickest street-driven Porsche 911s in the world, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
