Porsche 911 991.1 Runs 9.0s on a Stock Motor: Track Time Thursday Presented by Yokohama Tire’s All-New ADVAN APEX

By -

Porsche 911 Turbo S runs a quicker quarter mile time than any 991.1 with an unopened motor.

The 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S is a wicked machine, delivering 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque in stock form from the 3.8-liter flat-six engine, but like any modern turbo car, a few changes make a massive difference. In the case of this 991.1 shown in the video from the TalonTSi97 Videos YouTube channel, the motor itself is stock, untouched internally, but a turbo upgrade package from AIM Performance makes this car with over 100,000 miles on the odometer the quickest of its kind.

While the 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S in the video above has a stock, unopened engine, this German sports car is most certainly not stock.

It has been upfitted with the ES850R package from AIM Performance, tuned by Emre of ES Motors. According to the ES Motors website, this package adds Garrett GTX turbochargers, a larger intercooler, a catless exhaust system, exhaust headers, custom downpipes, a custom intake plenum, Tial external wastegates, Tial blow off valves, an HKS electronic boost controller, a methanol injection kit, a Syvecs ECU, a Cobb AP with a custom tune for MS109 race gas and all of the various items needed to install all of these go-fast bits in the Porsche 911.

In addition to the engine upgrades, this 991.1 has a Dodson clutch upgrade and Mickey Thompson tires to help make the most of the power.

Setting the Record

The video begins with a few close-up shots of this Porsche 911 as it is preparing to hit the track, followed by a look at the driver making sure that the tires are ready to grip. He pulls around the burnout box, making a couple quick, hard hits before easing into the staging beams.

When the green lights drop, the Audi in the far lane quickly heads down the track while the Porsche driver sits at the line, making sure that the boost level is ideal before launching. When that time comes, the 911 rips away from the starting line, storming down the track, catching the Audi and setting a new world record for a stock-motor 991.1.

On this pass, the Porsche 911 Turbo S ran a 9.04 at 156.79 miles per hour, which is quicker than any 991 without internal engine upgrades.

Best of all, the second portion of the video includes the in-car action, allowing us to experience the thrill of riding in one of the world’s quickest Porsches. Crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
