New Porsche 914 Restomod Uses Cayman’s 3.4-Liter Flat-six for Power
It may not get the love the 911 does, but this Porsche 914 restomod from Fifteen Eleven Design looks to change that.
Buyers flush with cash have a plethora of Porsche 911 restomods to choose from, including offerings from companies like Singer, Gunther Werks, DP Motorsport, and many, many more. But while the venerable 911 has always enjoyed tremendous enthusiast interest, the 914, well, it resides a bit further down the totem pole. However, a UK-based company called Fifteen Eleven Design is currently working on a very cool Porsche 914 restomod project that might just change that perception.
Fifteen Eleven Design is actually known for performing high-quality restorations on a variety of vintage vehicles, but that won’t quite be the case with this 1975 Porsche 914 restomod. The project is still in its infant stages of development, but FIfteen Eleven has provided some renderings and a few details as to what we can expect, and it sure sounds and looks pretty darn cool.
The design of this Porsche 914 Restomod retains much of the car’s original character, yet adds some new LED headlights inspired by Porsche’s “Moby Dick” 935 racer and wider carbon-fiber bodywork. Fifteen Eleven is also adding larger vents for cooling purposes, 18-inch Fuchs-style wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4, a transparent Targa top, and an active ducktail-style rear spoiler.
Power for this new/old Porsche comes from a newer model – a 3.4-liter flat-six from a 987 Cayman S, which in stock form produces 291 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. Fifteen Eleven hasn’t said what it will do to the engine, if anything, but we imagine that it will receive some sort of power boost.
That power will flow to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, while the 914 will ride on an all-new suspension with upgraded brakes. The bulk of which will come from the donor Cayman S, but Fifteen Eleven will add aftermarket coilovers to the mix, along with a stainless steel exhaust to help amplify the flat-six’s song.
The Porsche 914 has never really gotten the love it deserves from the automotive enthusiast world, but perhaps this new offering will help change that. After all, this platform certainly has potential, and we can’t wait to see the end result of Fifteen Eleven Design’s efforts here.
