Long-Time Porsche Owner Loves New Viper ACR

When questioning just how good a new car is, the best judges are those who have spent hours and hours in a variety of cars, giving them baselines to interpret from. Rennlist member C.J. Ichiban self-reportedly has more than 100,000 miles in some of the world’s top sports and performance cars, so when he speaks up to express his thoughts and opinions about a car, it’s only fair to listen. After all, he’s “owned a dozen porsches, and a half dozen other exotics.”

Ichiban recently posted a review of the brand new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR with Extreme Aero. Previous to this, the five best cars he’s owned (excluding the hypercar class) are the McLaren 675LT, 997 GT3RS 4.0/3.8RS/3.6RS, BAC Mono, a supercharged 1993 Acura NSX with suspension setup, and the Porsche Carrera GT, in that order. Following his time with the $130,000 ACR, the Carrera GT no longer fits in that list.

As a reminder, “This car’s entire purpose is to be wrung out on the track,” and he judged it that way. He’s looking at these cars with checkmarks like the “most visceral, most sophisticated, most approachable limits, best driving position, performance envelope etc.”

To summarize, he loves the car, explaining it “obliterates every other car on the track,” draws more attention than any other car that’s not a P1, and says it’s a vehicle you yank around and wrestle with, not lightly flick around corners. For a Porsche comparison, he says, “It’s more like the 996GT3 for those of you with cross experience.”

That’s some pretty high praise. Check out his full on the forums.
