Jerry Seinfeld Paid $1.2M for a 1999 Porsche 911

That’s right. The comedian paid a seven-figure price for a one-of-a-kind 1999 Porsche 911 Classic.

We’ve always known that celebrities, particularly ones that have an itch to collect cars, will pay insane prices for questionable cars. When you read “1999 Porsche 911 Classic,” and “$1.2 million” in the same sentence, your jaw likely hit the floor. If the car in question was just a regular ol’ 911, we’d be right there with you. According to Porsche, though, this isn’t your run of the mill 911 from back in the day. Nope, this one was special.

For one, Porsche made only one of them. And second, this was a very expensive live-action rendering of what this car would have looked like if Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (“special request” in English) division whipped this baby up back in 1999.

More of an aesthetic package than anything else, the Classic Club Coupe — the “Club” being thrown in there since the Porsche Club of America helped with development — pulled off the 90’s look incredibly well. Grant Larson, the brilliance behind the original Boxster design and Carrera GT, added a tasteful ducktail spoiler, double-bubble roof and the Fuchs wheels it would have come with.

On the inside, Larson adorned the cockpit with beautiful blue stitching and accenting, complete with era appropriate pepita-pattern seating. Mated to the 3.6 liter Mezgar flat-six from the 996.2 911 GT3 is a six-speed manual transmission. This pairing sends 381 horses to the wheels, all with a 90’s shift knob to bring Seinfeld back a few decades.

While the price seems outrageous for the list of changes made to a car from 1999, enthusiasts are at least happy the car is with a collector who will actually fire it up and drive it. No one loves a Porsche more than Jerry Seinfeld, so at least the odometer will actually be rolling and not collecting dust in a fancy underground garage.
