Porsche’s Cayman model has grown to be quite the overall package. It’s fast, fun and inches closer to making the 911 look less dominate with each new model. What drivers love most about they Cayman is typically linked to the handling and incredibly precise balance of the mid-engine, light car setup. Rarely do you hear too much about the engine block itself…until now.

The good and perhaps crazy people at Limitless Motorworks agreed to a Cayman owner’s request to junk the standard kit and put in its place a 5.0 Coyote V8 “Aluminator” engine. The end result is 424 horsepower to the wheels, backed by 364 lb-ft of torque. This is all in a total package that weights 3,050 lbs, a combination enough to make most 911s start breaking a sweat.

The build in its entirety cost around $100,000, although Limitless told The Smoking Tire‘s Matt Farah, who is the lucky driver of the specialty Cayman in the video below, that a replicated project would likely cost around $70,000. The logistics of such an engine swap are no easy task, including moving the firewall forward and wiring the engine to work with the Porsche 6-speed Cayman manual transmission. Apart from those modifications, the Cayman includes the electric power steering setup from a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 racecar.

First impressions from watching the video show that the car is more than capable and clearly of the “stupid fast” variety. It’s also hard to argue with the high-pitched roar of the V8 during downshifts. The only obvious negatives appear to be increased cabin heat and quite a bit of noise coming from the engine, given that it is only inches behind the driver and passenger.

No doubt this is one of the more special Caymans out there; watch just a few minutes of the video below and I’m sure that you will agree.
