Porsche Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving we had a lot to be thankful for, and one thing that we don’t like at all.

It is the time of year for giving thanks. And since we are all Porsche enthusiasts, I thought we should celebrate Porsche Thanksgiving. We will do this by taking a look back at the last year and thank Porsche for all of the great things they have given us. They gave us a lot in 2021 for sure.

But not everything has been great, so I threw in one thing that I am not so thankful for. Hey, I gotta keep it real right? Still, I think 2021 is going to go down as one of the best years the company has had. New electric models hit the scene. Some of our favorite models have been enhanced with new features. And holy crap, they actually put a GT3 engine in the Cayman engine bay.

Before we get into the things, we are most thankful for, I need to be clear that this is not a comprehensive list. Porsche continued to rack up race wins. Porsche Design introduced new products. They are moving the EV game forward. It would take a small book to cover everything to be happy about during this Porsche Thanksgiving. But I am focusing instead on just the top ten highlights and one lowlight. Let’s get to it.

Porsche Thanksgiving

911 GTS Models

The Porsche GTS models are the sweet spot in each model range. With a GTS you typically get all the performance options and a bit more power to make it the perfect drivers car. A step above the S models but not as extreme as the GT or Turbo versions. And in 2021 Porsche rolled out the GTS models for the new 992 generation 911. Cranking out 473 horsepower and with a lowered suspension the GTS 911 is a fantastic sports car for the road. And this time there is something new on offer with the GTS and that is a lightweight package. Up to 55 pounds can be saved with the carbon fiber full bucket seats, lightweight glass for the side and rear windows, and the use of a lightweight battery. The rear seats are also removed. More power, less weight, more features. Thank you Porsche.

992 GT3

It is finally here. The latest and greatest GT3. And it does not disappoint. It laps the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes, which crushes the times set by the already impressive 991.2 GT3. The new car doesn’t offer much more power than the old but the new double wishbone combined with a wider track and that big swan neck wing do wonders on a race track. Of course on top of the performance the new GT3 comes with all the tech upgrades from the 992 generation. But it still offers the option of choosing the excellent 6-speed automatic transmission. This car is a hero and you would be hard pressed to find a better, more engaging sports car anywhere in the world.

GT3 Touring

Well, this might actually be an even better GT3. Of course, that all depends on what you are after in your sports car. This may come as a shock but not everyone that buys a GT3 spends every weekend with it on the racetrack trying to shave every tenth of a second off a lap time. In fact, most of the time a GT3 is taken for a drive up the mountains or on a country road with some friends. It might even just be driven to Starbucks on the weekends. The GT3 Touring still offers most of the GT3 performance but it ditches the huge rear wing and comes in a much more subtle package. And for the first time you can order the PDK transmission with the Touring if you so desire.

If you don’t care about maximum downforce or the need to scream you have a GT3 with a huge wing, this is the car you want. An under the radar Porsche superstar is what the GT3 Touring is.

In 2019, he became a certified driving instructor for the National Auto Sport Association. His love for all things four wheels has never wavered, whether it's driving some of the best cars in the world on the racetrack, tackling 2,000-mile road trips in 2-seat sports cars or being winched off the side of a mountaintop in a Jeep.
