Are you new to the 992 generation 911 and wonder what owners are changing about their cars? This thread gives you a peek at the top 5 mods.

So you’ve got a new or newer Porsche 911. It’s great! From the factory, the 992 generation is an amazing and unbelievable car. But the truth is, most owners can’t leave well enough alone. And members of our RennList forum have been discussing the top 5 first modifications they have made to their car. Now, when we say modification, we group in things like additions, and exchanges for upgrades.

Paint Protection film, or PPF

One thing is evident, the popularity of paint protection film. It’s almost every forum members recommended lists, and for good reason. Paint protection film does exactly what it says. It protects the paint from road rash. And being a clear film, it’s practically invisible. While there’s other mods like getting their car wrapped a whole other color, paint protection film is a visual mod that you can’t even tell has been performed. Plus, nothing beats a protected investment.

Exhaust!

Next up with a hefty amount of mentions, is exhaust. Although varying kinds of exhausts are mentioned, the underlying reason is clear. The 992 produces a beautiful noise when it is uncorked just a bit more. Sure, sport mode or pressing the exhaust button will bring a little zing to your commute, but nothing beats hearing the distinct howl of a flat-six engine.

Clear’s the way

Popular, but down to personal taste is the clear side-marker install. Available from our friends at SunCoast Porsche, this lens mod makes the 992’s lines flow a lot better. Plus, the unsightly splash of orange tends to fuss up unique paint-to-sample color options. Combined with Porsche’s factory clear tail light lenses, it’s a must-have for those who are picky about details. Some folks will go even farther with the visual mods, especially inside. New shift knobs and upgraded seats are popular as well.

More Power

For those of us who like a little bit more performance than what Porsche offered, a factory ECU tune is a popular choice. M-engineering has a number of mentions for their tune, which has impressive results, even for Stage 1. It’s not just power that’s a benefit, either. A true-open exhaust mode, or fully quiet mode is a great convenience to have.

Not So Fast

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Porsche without speed. We always encourage responsible driving, which means that you might want to have a radar detector on-board. You know, for safety. Radar detection tech has come a long way in the past few years. It’s more accurate, and can detect false signals, since so many cars now use radar tech for their collision avoidance systems. But we all know, that little “blip blip” has saved us a time or two.

That said, if you were to make any immediate changes or add something to your 992, what would it be? We’d love to hear it!
