“I remember seeing Steve McQueen driving around in the slate gray 911 S in the opening scenes of the Le Mans movie,” Berryman says. “As a teenager, seeing that movie and loving cars and loving racing, I think that it it had such an impression on me.”

Once inspired by Porsche, he set out to try his hand at restoration. But being young, and having to move on to college, the project car got left behind. At university, he was focused on studying mechanical engineering. But fate had some other ideas.

“I met my bandmates,” he recalls. “And we went off, forming Coldplay.”

Berryman drives through the countryside in his ’67 911. He certainly appreciates that the success of the band opened up a world of possibility and adventure. But he never stopped thinking about the satisfaction of getting his hands dirty in the garage.

“I guess it was a few years ago that I decided that I was really missing that kind of hands on with engineering,” he says. “Making something which didn’t work, work again.”

He certainly found the perfect cars to work on. His preference is for early 911s, saying that early-generation 911 is “very pure in its form.”

His classic 911 S is stunning. The video gives a nice look at the pristine interior, and cherry exterior. And we get to see this perfect Porsche on the road.
