Can Porsche Taycan Convert Hardcore Petrolheads into EV Enthusiasts?
Porsche will launch four-door coupe in September.
The Stuttgart-based automaker will sell numerous variants of the Taycan. One of these variants is expected to be equipped with a 600 horsepower electric powertrain, which will also provide over 300 miles of range.Â
Furthermore, this Taycan variant will sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and reach a top-speed of 155 mph. Not just, the Porsche’s executives also have promised that the Taycan will not suffer from any of the major performance related issues generally associated with EVs.
“The traction motors we’ve chosen are permanently excited synchronous machines that offer high long-term output, thereby ensuring that performance is reproducible. This means that you can accelerate powerfully not just once but several times in succession,†says Stefan Weckbach, Vice President of Product Line Battery Electric Vehicle at Porsche.
“The same applies to driving at a consistently high speed. On the other hand, we’ve developed a smart cooling system that prevents possible loss of performance due to extreme heat build-up by always supplying cooling power to just those components that need it.â€
Over 20,000 individuals have approached Porsche to purchase the Taycan. If the early customers like the coupe’s performance, such an outcome will enhance the credibility of electric technology amongst driving enthusiasts, which in turn, can benefit other major automakers also. This is because, at present, there are many people who are very skeptical of electric cars’ performance capability.Â
