All-Electric Porsche Macan is Coming to the Hit Game Overwatch 2

Porsche and game developer Blizzard Entertainment collaborated to incorporate the Macan into the Overwatch 2 universe.

Having a Porsche in a video game is not very unusual. However, typically it is a Porsche sports car or race car that is part of a racing game. But a Porsche in a team-based shooter game? That is not nearly as common. In fact, we are not sure it has ever happened before. But all that is about to change later this spring. Porsche and game developer Blizzard Entertainment announced their collaboration at the South by Southwest (SXSW) event last week. Players will be able to use special skins inspired by Porsche vehicles in the hit game Overwatch 2. The all-electric Porsche Macan will be one of the vehicles used to inspire the new special skins.

Why would Porsche want to be part of a shooter game? Exposure. According to Active Player Overwatch 2 has averaged over 6.3 million players a day over the last 30 days. That is a lot of people that Porsche can introduce to the brand. “The young and diverse Overwatch 2 community is very exciting for us as a brand,” says Deniz Keskin, Head of Brand Management and Partnerships at Porsche AG. “Overwatch 2 offers a sophisticated backstory, and players can easily identify with the characters. These were important building blocks for us to create a brand collaboration with Blizzard, and tell a story inspired by the new all-electric Macan.”

So, how exactly will Porsche vehicles take part in the game? There will be two Porsche-inspired skins that players can use for their characters. The new skins take design elements directly from the Macan EV. The signature four-point daytime running lights and vehicle width rear light unit are two examples. At the SXSW event a life-sized mech statue was on display to show people exactly what this Porsche skin will look like. The statue will be on display at other shows throughout 2024. “Porsche’s design philosophy blends wonderfully with how we approach our hero designs in Overwatch 2,” explains Tina Wei, concept artist on the Overwatch team. “D.Va’s mech was designed to optimize function on top of visual beauty that fits in a futuristic world, which naturally speaks to Porsche’s visual style and design.”

If you are not familiar with the game, it takes place in a future world where 39 unique heroes are available to form small teams. The teams battle across different locations around the world to prevent an evil uprising. The game is free to play on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The new Porsche-inspired skins will be available later this spring as part of an in-game launch.
