A 911 GT3 and GT3 RS Are Stolen as Thieves Drive Them Through Porsche Dealership Window

GT3 RS Stolen

The stolen GT3 and GT3 RS are quickly recovered. One of the suspects is arrested and charged with multiple theft and firearm related crimes.

In the beginning of the 2000 film Gone in 60 Seconds a couple of car thieves break into a Porsche dealership and drive a new 996 right through the dealership window. Apparently, a couple of car thieves in California are big fans of that movie because they recently tried the same thing in real life. And just like in the movie, the police were quickly on to them. Only this time the thieves were not going to settle for a base Carrera. The real-life thieves drove off in a 991.2 GT3 and a 991.1 GT3 RS. I guess if you are going to get busted driving a stolen Porsche, you may as well go big.

The incident took place on April 4 at around 12:45 am at Porsche Fremont in Fremont, California. Thieves broke into the dealership, got the cars started and drove them right through the dealership windows. That makes for a dramatic scene in a Hollywood movie, but it is probably not the smartest approach if you want to remain undetected. The Fremont Police Department responded to an in-progress burglary call, and they were provided with the details of the cars and their direction of travel. At that point the hunt was on.

Quick Recovery

GT3

Just a few hours after the theft Fremont Detectives from the Special Operations Division located the stolen Porsche GT3 RS in Milpitas, California. The car was promptly returned to the dealership. The dealership claims that the combined value of the two cars was over $500K. That seems a tad high to me, as a 991.1 GT3 RS can be had for around $200K and the 991.2 GT3 goes for about $175K to $200K. But regardless, we are talking about a pair of very expensive and desirable cars.

GT3 Found and Suspect Arrested

Car thief

The next day detectives used advanced camera technology to pinpoint the location of the GT3 and found the suspect driving the stolen car. 22-year-old Nova Moore was arrested and the GT3 was recovered. But stealing a car was not the only crime Moore was committing. While he was being arrested, he tried to discard a loaded handgun. Police then conducted a search of Moore’s residence, and officers recovered several rifles, stolen property, money, and a police radio scanner. He was subsequently charged with driving or taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, convicted felon in possession of ammunition, and willfully resisting or delaying a peace officer. Another unidentified suspect remains at large.

Police are asking for help locating this second suspect and if you have any information to contact Special Operations Division Detective A. Dennis at dennis@fremont.gov, or at 510-790-6900. Or submit an anonymous tip by texting: Tip FremontPD followed by a short message to 888777 or via the web at https://fremontpolice.gov/TIP.
