911’s AWD System Celebrates 30 Years of Performance

Currently, AWD models of the 911 constitute roughly 40 percent of all the car’s sales? Do you expect those numbers to grow in the years to come? If so, by how much? Could the idea of a totally rear-wheel drive 911 eventually become an anomaly?

It is certainly possible, but the 911 is a highly matured car. With 30 years of history behind it, I would bet that it stays more-or-less the same in the future from a volume perspective. Of course that won’t stop us from innovating and improving.

What is the next most logical step in the evolution of the 911 AWD system? In essence, how far can Porsche push the technology? Or better yet, how far is Porsche willing to push the technology?

It will need to be lighter, able to adjust more quickly and handle even more torque. Improving on what we have won’t be easy, but nothing worth working on is.
