This 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Has an Interesting History

Carrera RS

Despite being named after a famed race in Mexico, that particular country only saw a total of three 911 Carrera RS models. This is one of those three.

It never saw too many road miles being put on it, with a total of under 25,000 miles in the odometer. The story goes that it also never saw its intended owner. This black beauty was ordered alongside a white example, and the pair of RS’s were to be delivered to two brothers. Sadly, both of them perished in a plane crash before taking delivery. The surviving family members did the honorable thing and kept the two 911’s in their memory.

Over thirty years later, this Carrera RS #0578 found its way to an American Porsche collector. Two separate companies then took on the role of restoring the car. Willhoit Auto Restoration did the beautification and stripping the RS down to its tub, while Scott’s Independent took care of  the very small number of mechanical issues. This black 2.7 was equipped with just about every option imaginable: Air conditioning, electric windows, a sunroof, heated rear window, and even a limited slip differential make this 911 not only a nice place to be, but also very capable car as well. This vintage beauty is in search of a potential third owner, and it’s being offered for sale through Canepa.
