Audi Q 7
Does anyone tow with a 3.0 Gas engine? I d like to know if it is overworked to get the job done. Gear hunting? sagging butt syndrome of the vehicle?
TIA or do I buy a used diesel?

Buddy does (the new generation). Tows a Trailex open with a V10 R8 and a set of wheels. Probably close to 5000#. He thinks it does a great job. Shoot me a PM and I'll introduce you.

02 cents worth: I would prefer Diesel for torque, confidence and mileage alone........
I have an image (possibly flawed) of gas guzzling up the hills on 17 to WGI.

I got 2017 Q7 Gas 3.0 engine. Towed twice ( Watkins Glen, NJMP) with the trailex and 991 GT3 with tools, extra set of tire, wife and son.
No Problem at all. No sagging butt and plenty of power.
Still able to get 17mpg (going nice and easy) overall.
Good luck!

Thank you all! My concerns were gear hunting not enough umph to climb the hills heading up to the glen at speed. Ive got an enclosed trailex. How about the climb up to the Glen through Montour? I cant get a TDI from a dealer which means is will be used and uncertified... or new which is gas.

My original intention was a Cayenne Diesel after speaking with a couple of friends that have been there and done that I opt'd for the Q7 Diesel. Long wheelbase more comfortable tow. I was told today a decision is within a few days of how they will be sold from the stop sale vehicles.

2015 Diesels will be sold 1st. They are same platform with a longer wheelbase than the Cayenne or Toureg which is why it will be a more comfortable tow.
