So, I'm in the market to buy a LWB-equipped used G4 near MSRP. Not so easy task right now.

High end used car dealers have jumped in and are acquiring GT4s at near MSRP and marking them up to prices of $110 - $125 asking - hoping to turn a quick profit or perhaps create some excitement on the showroom floor. But, are they selling for those prices?

A few Porsche dealers will pay as much as MSRP to buy one outright, but most will not. However, many will accept a trade at near MSRP to facilitate an underlying sale. Like the use car guys, they too are putting them out at asking prices of $10 - $20k over sticker.

Now, the weird thing - while the asking prices of GT4s are rising, other competent Porsche cars prices are falling to levels that compete with the once value focused GT4. There is a LWB equipped GT3 asking only $140k here on rennlist. Also, the prices of nicely equipped 991 generation Carreras, which started with a retail price of $125k and more, now can be bought in the $70s. What???

Unlike most GT4 owners, I started with a Cayman and I'm a Cayman guy. But, when you can buy a low mile 911 Carrera S with SPASM / Aerocup kit wing / PDK or 6 speed for well under $100K, I'm questioning why pursue an inflated priced GT4? Heck, with the 911, at least my wife can drive it on the street, we'll have room in the back seats for my critters, and still be able to lay down quicker lap times than the GT4.

Previously I owned a sport chassis equipped 3.4ltr 2015 Cayman GTS. Absolutely brilliant car - only lacking a few ponies, and Cup 2 tires. But, it was a no brainer to pay $10K more to get a GT4. Today, the GTS sells for about $70k, maybe less. With GT4s asking $40 - $50k more, is it worth it?

I'm not saying I want a own 911 or a go back to a Cayman GTS, but I question the current value proposition on used GT4s. Is $100K plus reasonable for a used Cayman, even a very good one like the GT4? What say you?

Even if used GT3 value is falling to 140s, it won't impact the market for the GT4. It's very simple, PDK vs. Manual. Most people who want the GT4 will not look at the GT3 due to PDK. A 991 GTS is a nice alternative in manual, but those are even harder to find than the GT4, so there is really no competition there. Unfortunately if you want a GT4, you need to pay the market premium to play. I think the premium on the GT4 will be here to stay for a while until the new GT4 comes out in 2 years time.

It'll probably go down a bit once the 991.2 GT3 comes out (if it has a manual).

I wouldn't pay over MSRP, and definitely not for something I wasn't able to configure myself.
If I didn't already have one I'd just be waiting for the next GT4, perhaps with a new version R8 to tide me over.
I'm a middle engine guy, so a used GT3 no matter the price wouldn't persuade me.
Well, unless it's a UV RS, then I throw away my principles and become a rear engine guy. :)

Seems like the volume of gt4's is rising a bit. That should start to put a little pressure on prices over the next 6 months (along with cold weather).

In the used 991 S or GTS, you do get the same engine as the GT4, but you will never get the GT suspension. Plus those 70k 991 S are prob 2012 and 2013. The Gt4 are 2016.

Also don't forget that at 140k, the 991 GT3 is still 30k-40k more than a mildly spec GT4. That's means that a base GT3 is close to 40% more expensive than a GT4. That's before you factor in the fact that the GT3 is likely going to be a 2014 and the engine may not be as reliability as that in the GT4, especially after warranty expires and etc.

I would not touch a GT3 until porsche is clear on what they are going to do about the kaboom problem.

I was going to say, wait another month and see what happens. Traditionally, sports cars are hard to move during the winter months so there is a significant discount on them. Cayman/Boxster GTS were selling for mid 60's, then spring comes along and it shot up to low 70's. I thought I saw a couple of GT4's in the classifieds for low 100's here.

You're looking at 9-10 pages in this thread. One thing I've noticed besides bench racing is car prices expertise on Rennlist. It never gets old to " chime in ".
It's all useless drivel,believe me. Offers and real people communication buy and sell cars. And that's what they're worth...

Yes, sold the GR.
Yes, for MSRP (a little less than that due to miles and track days).
Yes, I'd like a LWB car if I can find a White / CWM / or another GR red before fall track weekends start!

I would not sit around and say "I will not pay this or that for what I want." You likely feel that way because you sold your GT4 after buying it at MSRP and now the market appears to have risen a bit. If you have the money and you want a 2016 GT4, buy it if you find the right car at a price you are willing to pay. Then go enjoy the hell out of it. You may be able to find one with LWBs at MSRP but unlikely. As for me, I would buy what I want and take it to the track. Think of it like this: pay 5% above what you think you should for a ton of fun - first time back on the track and you will not care.

If you're looking for a GT3, the 2014 with the racing warranty verbiage is the one to get.
No LWBs, but you want the halo Recaros anyways.
It will have had it's E engine replaced with another E with improved rod bolts, then race it until it fails and Porsche will upgrade it to the latest G+ with DLC on both rocker arms and camshaft lobes according to Macca.
Just hope there is no need for an H.

In July Sold my first GT4 5k m. RY 2ways perfect car 89msrp for 85 to a forum member. in retrospect looks like i under-priced it by 5k. Great guy and a no hassle transaction is worth something . never advertised it he saw a post that i was getting another one and contacted me . probably the lowest priced GT4 sold.like i say "buy high sell low"

Porsche of Colorado Springs has a GR one (just received and not yet on their web site) that I believe was about $105k MSRP with an asking price of $110k.
