I took my 996 C2 skiing several times with skis on the roof to Whistler, etc. As PPo says, narrow winter_tires and you're set. I did certainly get some looks in the parking lots, but I had a great time and never got stuck or wanted for grip in the mountains.
Steve, be sure your washer fluid is up to the task, though: the 996 and Boxster never really warm the fluid up like a normal car from engine heat. Also, make sure your door handle switches and window regulators are healthy before you try to open the door on a very cold car, since it has to lower the window a little to clear. That struck me as a weak point in the design for winter use.

Taking the 993 out later this week as well. Makes the winter months go by a little quicker. They do not melt in winter lol and I really don't care about protecting value for the next owner. It gets driven and hard

Don't hate me because I have a Panamera. :-)
I drive mine all year round, and before that and the kids, I did have a 2 seater AWD sports car fitted with snow tires. Just keep it clean with regular washes; I've never had any issues in the snow (GTA) and never got stuck.
