Default endless search

Hello everyone,

I've been searching for a porsche in Ontario for the last 4 months and have not had much luck. I'm looking for a 3 litre or 3.2. I live about 2 hours from Toronto and have seen alot of cars in that area. My latest road trip took me to Ottawa and another disappointment.
There is a car listed on this site that sounds pretty good but I'm a little aprehensive about another 3hours on the 401. Has anyone had this car looked at. I contacted the seller he says the car is exellent. No offence to him or to anyone else but I've heard this about every car I've seen so far. The car is an 1984 carrera cab and is located in Windsor. Is there someone in that area that could take a look for me.
The price is about average for what I've seen so far but most of the cars have been below my expectations after extensive research on this board. So before I pay for another PPI I would appreciate someones perspective from the Canadian or US forum.

Thanks in advance

If you'll consider a Targa, I have a friend with an '87 Targa (silver with black interior) with very, very low mileage (I think he has about 115,000 km now). The only reason that he'd sell it is to get a coupe (he wants a hard-top). The car is immaculate and he is the second owner after the first owner had it from new (and always serviced at Pfaff) until about 105,000 KM. He is away in Mexico this week but will be back in town (Etobicoke) this coming weekend. I'm happy to put you in touch with him if you;re interested.

goulet911,

I agree with you ....I have been looking for the right 964 for way too long as well. Trying to find the right car for the right deal. I passed up on a couple of opportunities due to personal reasons.

Now I am back in the market and I am thinking of going south for a car. With the exchange rates, its way cheaper to buy in the U.S and bring it back. Everyone in Canada wants a gold mine for their cars. However, over the last 6 months i noticed many Porsche dealers dropping their prices as is the private sector....so I am still looking all over.

what is your budget? there's a few in autotrader.ca that's for sale. In fact Autoforum is selling this 1988 Anniversary Edition 3.2 carrera. looks good but priced a bit high for what it is.

Delhi,

I look at the autotrader every friday (heheheh), ebay etc. I have yet too find a decent 911. I am trying to get a car private with all documentation. Also, I am trying to steer away from dealers. They are usually beat up and if they are not beat up they want a killing.

I am looking for an 89 c4 or a 90-91 c2 or c4.

I do not want to pay more than $30k.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well the black 90 C4 in Autotrader is actually quite nice. I was there to check it out as I too am looking for a 964. The records seemed full for the past coupla years. no idea the rest. had top end rebuild and such and such. but the car was from Chicago. it used to list about 37k. now it's 34k. i bet it can go even lower.
i didn't know ebay has 911s for sale. but then agian, i like to look and drive the car before purchasing so no ebay for me.
i assume you know the usual stuff related to the 964 series right?

hey guys
Be careful 30,000 for a 964 will probably cost you 50,000 by the time you get it sorted out . I no from experience. I had an 89 carrera 4 without serious issues. Very expensive maintenance. Here's a few things that come to mind 1200 plugs and wires sets. Cupped tires every ten K. Wheel bearings every 7 to 10 k . Not to mention any thing serious has to go to the dealer . This was a car with 60000 Kms and the cylinders already replaced . Give me an 84 thru 89 anytime .

i agree. i've only seen one 964 that sold less than 30k (29k specifically). and it was a US car from California. No records nothing. Car drove ok. but the engine was quite ****ee. intake rubber was broken, sunfoof didn't work and a host of suspicious issues.
If you can try to swing for the late models 964s as they manage to fix some of the issues like the failing DMFs, no gasket problems, oil leaks and such.
To be fair, the 964s aren't all that bad. juts take some patience. I've seen some very good samples which were very well taken cared off by the owners. Besides, most of the stuff mentioned are fixed via warranty by original owners.

Hey Delhi , This is my point, US car or not " no records" A good 964 at the minimum should be worth high 30's with room to negotiate. So 29k shows you get what you pay for. If I was looking for a 964 (89ish) 35000 would probably get me off my wallet if every thing was to my satisfaction, and I am very picky about p-cars I purchase.
There's deals out there but I guarantee you will pay for a "deal" one way or another. When it comes to porsche's if its a deal, there's usually a reason.
Also buying in the US is not as easy as you think, Ask anyone on this board thats done it how much money they really saved. I've done this twice. I saved nothing. The only thing it did for me that was good was it brodened my search. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to discourage you in any way . I just call it like I see it.
I hope you find the car of your dreams .Best of luck

Hey Delhi,
Have you seen the C4 at Eby towne Motors, bring a drooling cup.
It's the best I've seen in along time. Impressive in all aspects.

i called for price one time. but sales person left me hanging. it's in kitchener. maybe my wife and i can drop by to look at it when we visit London (school friends).
i kinda wish that there'smore 3.2 carreras for sale. i like their simplicity compared to the 964s.
