RIP Chiqui Soldevila
A great Puertorrican friend, father, husband and racecar driver has left us. My dear friend Chiqui Soldevila died last Saturday after being involved in a tragic car accident, the victim of a drunken driver.
During the 70's-80's he raced several Porsches at venues like Sebring and Daytona. In 82' he placed 4th overall (1st in GTO) in a 911 RSR co-driven by Diego Febles and Tato Ferrer (all three from Puerto Rico). The defending champions, Hurley Haywood, Al Holbert, and Bruce Leven finished behind him in a Brumos 935, for reference.
An excellent pilot, to the very end. He was a close friend of Alois Ruf, who serviced and kept one of the first production RT-12's for Chiqui in Pfaffenhausen. A true gentleman driver, one of the last of a dying breed.
He is survived by his wife Wanda, his son, Pedro, and young daughter Karina. He will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace.

Indeed. The whole Puertorrican community is shocked at this tragic and senseless loss. I personally talked to him just a week ago, in PR. We were making plans to go to Le Mans next year to see the return of Porsche to Le Sarthe. Now I feel more determined than ever to do so, in his name.

Muy triste. Very sad. We lose another Porsche friend from PR to a drunk driver. May he be up in heaven talking cars with my buddies Jimmy B, Tcherine and Gabriel G !
God bless him and his family...

The circuit pilots club of PR (CCCPR on Facebook) will dedicate him their 40th Anniversary Cup this coming Oct19-20th.
A well-deserved and fitting tribute.

For any fellow Puertorrican racers in here, Chiqui's body just made it in to PR. He'll be at Buxeda Funeral Home, tomorrow all day. There will be a mass at the San Juan de La Cruz parish at Urbanizacion Los Paseos in San Juan, Saturday at 2:00PM. The body will be cremated, at the family's request. There will be a mass in his memory later this month, to be notified.

I cannot believe it - was away in Europe and as just thinking of Chiqui - he was my friend, my mentor, funny and gentle, full of joy - and treated everyone like they were the most important person to him in the world. I am so sad and of course for Wanda y kalima y Pedro Juan y Pao y familia - my love and thoughts from Virginia, Vaya con Dios # 42
