Solutions;

- Reduce horsepower.
- Use less brakes.
- Make car lighter
...
- ROUGH UP wheel lips, like 40 grit on a D/A rough.
- Clean tire bead with lacquer thinner. Remember the same release agent that you
heat cycle out of a tire is there too.
- Use NO soaps or sealers.
- Air up to 40PSI and leave that way for as long as you can.

I'm surprised people would use something weak like hairspray but have never tried contact cement. It has a much stronger bond.
The "weak" method works well when done right. The rims and tire bead must be cleaned of old slobber and release compounds. I use flash dry solvent, clean rags and a fine wire brush to scuff lightly. After mounting the tires should sit or not be driven hard for a few days before track use.

You might want to read the directions on the contact cement and think a bit. The reason the hair spray works is it is slippery and works as a lube during install but turns grippy after some time. The contact cement works by being brushed onto both to be mated surfaces and the solvent evaporated prior to being mated together. It bonds by grabbing to itself when the two treated surfaces make contact. How you going to mount the tires?

You mentioned that the tires were flipped. Did they rotate on the rims before they were flipped?

I've used contact cement many times. Thought perhaps tires could be mounted on the rim dry, then apply contact cement, wait for it to tack up while using some kind of spacing material to keep the tires away from the bead, then inflate when it dries. Don't know if that's possible but was what I was thinking.

Yes they rotated prior to being flipped but I never asked Paul to use the hairspray because I didn't know about it back then.

Kurt, do you know if the X-tra Seal is available locally?

Larry, Yes I understand you know how contact cement works but you might not be as spun up on peformance tire mounting. They don't just slide gently onto the rim and are a far harder task if you were to try it dry. Bead damage while dry mounting is not unheard of. Keep it simple. Use the existing method right and it works.
Hair spray on a dirty rim and greasy tire is not the corect method. the tires and rims have to be clean. Offer to do the cleaning of rims and beads after they dismount the old tires.

I could do the cleaning no problem. I have to buy a new set of tires anyway and thought I might get them stuck tight from the beginning.

I guess that you didn't get the joke. They are bead clamp rims used on off road vehicles to mechanically "clamp" the tire bead to the rim.

If the tire isn't losing air, is this really an issue?

Well it makes balancing pretty useless.

The Hoosier R6's that I use, mounted on CCW rims, always rotate substantially. Not much noticable vibration until day 2, then the wheels and tires feel somewhat "square" for a few laps, then they are ok for the rest of the day. I asked around about the hairspray solution among some hardcore professional racers - they laughed. So I don't worry about it anymore.

Try the Nitto NT01s or the RA1s. Different tire compound, I haven't noticed an issue as yet.
