Default Factory paint thickness

A buddy of mine is looking at an-07 base Cayman private sale. PPI was good but they didn't address the body for some reason. No do-over is possible so he's bringing his own paint meter when he goes to check it out in person. Does anyone know what the factory paint thickness is for this car? TIA.

Not sure on the factory paint thickness, but when using a meter just take measurements from multiple panels. See if one is way over the average, and that will indicate paintwork. I've never seen a car that was a complete repaint that I couldn't tell from 5 feet away.

The factory paint thickness normally runs around 5 to 7 mils on a car. You have 3 layers of coatings from the factory. E coat for corrosion protection , Basecoat color , and Clearcoat. For reference a mil is about the same thickness as a dollar bill.
