$93k 2014 Cayman S - Am I crazy?
Hi all, first time poster and (soon to be) first time porsche owner here!
I'm looking at buying a car which I'll keep forever. I've loved porsches forever and now finally have the chance to own one. I fell in love with the 2014 (981) Cayman S, and went to my local the dealer to make a factory order (here's my porsche build code). Final price came to a whopping $93,920...
I was and still am okay paying this price, but I started to think "should I really be looking at 911's?" The car will be a weekend driver for me, and I just want it to put a smile on my face every time I step in it. Luckily, I know both cars will.
I looked around the dealership and found many well equiped 2013/2014 (991) Carrera S's and Carrera 4S's in the $120k - $130k range. In your opinion, should I bite the bullet and "upgrade" to a C4S? This is the one I had in mind.
Let me know what you guys think!

I most definitely DO NOT plan on selling the car anytime soon, rather keeping it in my garage and enjoying it for years to come - hence my readiness to go a little wild on the options list. With a Carrera S or C4S I would have to hold back somewhat on the options, and I'm afraid it would become a car I wouldn't want to keep forever. Thoughts?

Crazy? No. More disposable cash than me? Yes.
You will love either the Cayman S or 911 as cars to "keep forever." If you think you may occasionally need the rear seats, go for the 911. Otherwise, the choice is yours and both cars are fantastic choices.

If that's the car you see yourself in enjoying it and enjoying every time you get cruise around in then go ahead do it but if you plan on selling in 2/3 yrs then it's gonna hurt because the value aint gonna be close to what you paid
Look if that's the car that makes you happy and makes you feel like a kid Everytime you get in it then do it by all means do it, you only live once so do it and enjoy it

Thanks for all the reply's guys! I suppose what I'm getting at is this...
Would you rather have a maxed Cayman S, or a decently optioned Carrera 4S 3 - 5 years down the line? I don't need the rear seats, so that's one plus for the Cayman, but I fear I may feel as if I'm stuck with the "baby brother" rather than the top dog. Anybody else get this sense? Am I psyching myself out of a great car?

Great cars.
But a 911 is The Great Classic Porsche and is PORSCHE in sports cars. I don't like it but it is just how it is .
Other than that get the one you like . But mostly 911 > Cayman or anything else in the Porsche world .
All of that said as I said here on RL and I was told by the Porsche dealer and management here - " Without the Cayenne and Panamera we would be working at Hyundai."

I've taken the Cayman S out once and had an absolute blast, though I was pretty tame and didn't get past third gear. I have yet to drive a 911, but am planning on doing so hopefully next week.

Any Porsche can run up BIG if you add on the options .
IMO only if you are getting new $100K and want a new Porsche car then I think the 911 is the way to go .
Back down the price range and I say the Cayman is the way to go.
A Cayman is a small car . You might want to think about that over time . A 911 is a somewhat more useful car . But still a sports car .
There is no question that while the Cayman is a great car, that the 911 is widely viewed as the best Porsche . You need more time on test in a 911 before you decide .

To me the Cayman occupies a place the 911 used to, as long as you don't need rear "seats". Compact, drive-every-day, reliable sports car fun at a reasonable price......IF you're careful with the option sheet. Going overboard with options makes for a car that is special and VERY expensive.
The new 911 is a beautiful car but it's gotten bigger and the price seems to have gone a little silly when equipped with normal options.
Me? For the money we're talking for a new 991, I'd take a lightly optioned Cayman S AND a nice 964 or 993.

93k where? USA? In Canada the cayman S start at 73k. Add PCCB brakes and you are at 83k, with no other options.... Add navigation, pasm, 20 inches wheels, pdk, sport chrono and you are already around 93k... Doesn't take much over here
